Re: Lantana question
Hi! I keep lantana over winter here in z4. I really have come to like them... I have grow lights in my basement and keep many of the tender plants over winter... this season I purposely put some of them into their own pots so they would have less disturbance when they move in for the winter. I' ve p...

Very nice! And I love the history too... do you know the name of it? Certainly must be a hardy one to be around this long... though I'm sure you give it special attention. Own root is the best in my book too.
Thanks for sharing the picture as well as story with this special one.

Re: need some help please
I use osmocote all the time.....if you found that it doesnt work...which one would you recommend? I used it because of the pot planting and thinking they need a little extra something they aren't getting from the soil and compost. Hello hostaphiles! Hoping you might be able to help me too... Seedless Tomatoes?
Does any one here have experience growing seedless tomatoes? I usually grow some regular ones in containers since I don't have a suitable place in the ground. I have an older lady friend who loves tomatoes but was diagnosed with diverticulitus (sp?) last summer and had big problems. The seeds caused...

Re: vintage wool sweaters.....
These are really cute! Did you come up with your own pattern too? In the contrasting areas, say the the spots on the bunnies, did you simply blanket stitch around the edge, or something else to keep from raveling? I guess if they were just decorative, edges might not be a concern... but if little ha...

Re: Use clay for creating a moist growing area?
Thanks GardenToad I appreciate your response. It sounds as if that would work for me. A good solution and drilling holes so there's no place for mosquitoes is an excellent idea too. Do you think soil from my yard (sandy/silty ~ say 40%) and the rest peat would work? Happy Spring! (It is bound to get...

Use clay for creating a moist growing area?
I n my winter reading/planning for next year, I read that one possible way to make an area for moisture loving plants is to remove the soil from the area you want for the bed and line it with clay, creating a barrier. Then in the process of refilling/planting up be sure to add plenty of organic matt...

Forsythia is blooming!!!
I took advantage of the wonderful unseasonably warm weather today to get some things from the "list" done outside. And very much to my surprise, I spied buds beginning to pop on my (container grown) Forsythia Koreana Kumson!!! OMG!!! I got it about 3 yrs ago as a small twig with roots and have been ...

Re: Pleioblastus fortunei - dwarf whitestripe bamboo
Looks good! It is more attractive than ribbon grass and sounds like it would be a great alternative (I have some and want to get rid of it!!!) Could you tell me how hardy this is and what it needs for exposure? Thanks for showing this one... you've got me thinking about spring and it's not even wint...

Schizophragma Moonlight
Wondering if any of you have experience with Schizophragma Moonlight. I mail ordered one this spring and have been growing it in a pot in very shady spot in my z4 garden since it was listed as a plant for shade. I have since been checking around the internet to be sure on the best location. Have bee...

Hi Claudia & Paul. I'm still around ... now & then... As this bulb matures it does have more than I flower per stem. Heres a shot of a group of mine in flower, not from this year, it will be a bit before thathappens. It is one of my favorites and I got it from Hod himself, so I guess the ones I've g...

So sorry to hear about the diagnosis... hope you are successful at preventing the spread. Like sometimes happens... maybe when you rethink your garden space and move on to a replacement for the victim you'll come up with something you'll like even more. Still a shame though...

Re: It looks sick - do you think it's dying?
I am by no means an expert ... If you've had it 6 yrs waiting until spring wouldn't be that bad. I'd rather wait and see for sure, especially since you've had it that long. I hope it comes back for you. Looks like a nice specimen. Maybe some body else will pop in who knows more. Let us know how it t...
