Re: Hosta Identification 3
How old (new) is this unidentified baby-maker??? If it's fairly old - that would narrow down the list of possibilities a bit.

Re: Hosta Identification 3
'Tall Boy' comes up fairly green (not chartreuse at all) and the scapes are a minimum of 5 feet tall (see first picture). Your original photos remind me of H. 'Sun Power' in the habit, leaf shape and overall size (second picture).

Look What Chris Just Sent Us!!
We really love the hosta Potomac Pride; so we ordered two of them from Hallson Gardens. Every time we shop for hostas, we look here first to see if they have the one(s) we want. We ordered these about a week ago and BOY-OH-BOY did we get a surprise!! We always know we will get great plants, but this...

Re: Nematode treatment
As mentioned above, once you see them they are likely on their way to surrounding plants also. In the last issue of the Hosta Journal I contributed my treatment method(s) for nematodes (pg73, Volume 45-Number 1). Rick Goodenough and Harold McDonnell also contributed to that Q&A article. If you don't...

Re: Hosta Ann Kulpa
This is a photo when ours was just two years old (we've had it since 2008). I never knew that it was slow to get started because ours seemed to just settle in and start growing. It's been consistent in size and appearance the last three years. Always striking and like everyone else noted, not too pa...

Re: Ancestry Info ?? for 'BC x Lazer'
We found out that Ron Livingston is who gave this plant to Pat and I've exchanged a couple of emails with him. The internet (forums, email, etc.) is a wonderful thing; just sprinkle a few inquiries around and in short order information comes flowing back!! In one of Ron's emails he asked "Why not na...

Re: Ancestry Info ?? for 'BC x Lazer'
Hi Chris. Pat received this plant from a hybridizer in 1999 but her notes didn't say who. Also, I can't find anything on a hosta named 'Lazer'. I've considered putting a tag on it calling it "Pat Mora's Lazer" but first I would really like to know who the hybridzer might have been.

Ancestry Info ?? for 'BC x Lazer'
In 2008 we received approximately 200 hostas from the gardens of Pat Mora (who was selling her house and moving to Arizona). One of the hostas was marked and listed in her database as 'BC x Lazer.' Would anyone have an idea of who originated this hosta or any of it's ancestry? It is a very nice soft...

Re: Labels
We've been using a P-Touch label maker to create the clear labels that we then peel-n-stick onto the zinc labels and they stay readable long after the prongs have rusted away. I have some that are at least six years old. Most often I replace labels only because they get bent up by hoses, dogs or rak...

Re: 2013 Orders
Like you, we couldn't wait any longer. We placed our order on New Year's Eve - it was more fun than a loud party! We order from multiple vendors but would much prefer to get them all from Hallsons. By far they are the healthiest plants we get anywhere. This year we've ordered the following from Chri...

Re: Pic of the Day--Elegans, or whatever
As novice - my question is . . . If H. sielboldiana Elegans was originally a cross between a sielboldiana and a tokudama, why is the sielboldiana heritage given more significance by being included in the name, instead of the tokudama? Could this be similar to how I was given my father's last name (p...

Re: Can we talk FOLIAR NEMATODES please?
We've had a fair amount of success at controlling the beastly little things by treating with Imidacloprid (found in Merit or Bayer products). We sprinkle the granules around in the early spring before the leaves unfurl and the severity of the infection has decreased radically. We still have nematode...

Re: Daily Hosta #2 - 'June' - Add your pics
As Ann said, "everyone's favorite hosta". Don't we all have pictures of this one? This hosta just compels us to photograph her. http://i1085.photobucket.com/albums/j434/u53291/June_WW1B_20110709.jpg We have four or five like the one above, spread throughout our gardens, but that wasn't enough - we h...

This is about midway through the season so she still has some color. Notice the one leaf in the center (at about 2 o'clock) that looks just like Ann's sport.

Re: Daily Hosta #1 - 'Island Charm' - Add your pics
This one has remained a consistent 12" from year to year. I keep thinking I'll move it somewhere with hostas closer to it's size, but it seems to be holding it's own in a bed surrounded by medium to large hostas.

We just got this one in 2010 so we're not sure yet . . but ours is already bigger than "tiny". Ours would fall more into the "small" category.

We've had ours five years now and the streaking seems very stable.
However, it is a painfully slow grower and to add insult to injury, something really enjoyed chewing on it this year!!

We like Paul's Glory so much that we used it to surround our fountain. In the second photo (July) you can tell that the Touch of Class are slower growing than the PG, but we're confident that they'll fill in as well as the PG in a year or two. http://i1085.photobucket.com/albums/j434/u53291/PaulsGlo...
