What might cause a hosta to look like this?

Photo is a hosta emerging in central Michigan. Looks very odd, with the vertical crown and those brown "spikes" radiating from it. I think the variety is Guacamole. The soil is a little washed out from around the plant from dripping from roof overhead, but I've not seen this before. Any ideas what m...

Re: Cleaning sooty mold from hostas

ViolaAnn, Thanks for the encouragement. Here is what has now worked for me. Because I don't yet have long-term data, please use at your own (your hostas) risk. 3 cups (ca. 26 ounces) household bleach ca. 1 Tablespoon "Ultraconcentrated" Joy (brand) dishwashing liquid ("With fresh lemon scent"!) dilu...

Welcome to the forums. Hopefully, you are familiar with the Hosta Glade at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum in Chaska (SW of Minneapolis). It is where I initially became hooked on hostas. www.arboretum.umn.edu

Another question about HVX test strips

Hi all, Perhaps those of you with experience using the Agdia test strips can help me out. I have a few new Sum & Substance (from an Illinois wholesaler) that show some leaf symptoms that may or may not be HVX - see another post on "Sunscald or HVX" - mine look a bit like those. So I got some of the ...

Hello to all from FLBuchholz in Midland Michigan

Hi all, Allow me to introduce myself - I'm Fred from Midland in central Michigan. I am a 15+ year hosta fanatic, with about 85 varieties of hosta in my garden. I have a shady, 10 acre property, so have lots of room to expand my gardens. I'm sure that I'll be kept in check by the large deer herd in m...
