Box Blight. Cylindrocladium Buxicola
Well, it took a while but now we are sure we have identified the problem with our topiary buxus in our garden. We knew it is Box Blight and now we also know the fungus is Cylindrocladium Buxicola. It is rather new, seen first in The Netherlands around 2005 and in our garden in 2009. The picture belo...

Re: Resurrection of our Wisteria sinensis
Well, it is not as good as we had hoped for but it is far better than we expected a year ago. The top flowers, although there are plenty buds, are not yet in bloom. This will probably take one or two additional weeks. The spring season starts a couple of weeks too late after a very cold period. wist...

Re: Resurrection of our Wisteria sinensis
For sure. What did not die is the main trunk that, after some 15 years (age ±18y), has a diameter of about 22 cm or ±9 inch.Tigger wrote:It's really remarkable how plants can recover from near-death experiences.

I expect the full bloom in about one week .... I'll keep you posted.

Resurrection of our Wisteria sinensis
Winter 2011-2012 we had our first serious Frost damage due to minimum temperatures as low as -22,9 °C (-9.2F), growth of most plants, including the Pinus densiflora, Japanese Red Pine started a few weeks late. However our Wisteria sinensis did not show any sign of live.... initially.... In June 2012...

Tsubo-en Zen-garden-site even more interactive
Thanks to GoogleEarth we now have an additional "virtual tour" of our frond garden. Really great. Have a look at this page: House and garden integration . The full-screen is fantastic. Just take your time to learn to navigate and you can really walk in our street and look around. This was taken in 2...

Re: wakeup call
Great to hear George. Not a stepping out but a shift of focus. We have had a real bad (or good ?) winter over here in The Netherlands ....... tons of snow... for many months now. So, to keep me warm, I have been very busy with yet an other hobby of mine http://www.hetwhiskyforum.nl / (sorry Dutch on...

Hi George. From previous messages I got the impression that you where not going to have a garden in your new house.George Nesfield wrote:...so I shall then have to start from scratch with my new Japanese garden.
George.
Does this really mean you are now in the design phase for a new Japanese (style) garden ??

Winter labor in the garden
Around Christmas :snow: last year I posted this photo: http://www.zen-garden.org/img/misc/okarikomi_x_winter_2009_decW1024.jpg Now we have had so much snow that the topiary got top-heavy and there was a need to remove the snow deck :frosty: Have a look of our winterly labor at http://www.zen-garden....

Re: torii gate
Hi Brian
Although not Torii as such, here is a link to some genuine gate examples that also include some torii-like gates that may be of inspiration also for your private garden. Indeed not an easy task.

Re: Training of pinus parviflora
Hi Myro, a bit late but I just saw this entry. I was also a bit late with pruning my Pinus Mugo in time. Not too late however ! As long as it was small that was no problem. But it had grown too big and too dense. After I found the recent Niwaki book I came to the conclusion that it was not too late ...
