Re: How's your iris season?
These are the two I have blooming so far. Both were gifts and I have no idea what the names are.
Happy Gardening,
Diane

Re: Snow
Not a picture of a hosta, but this we got this 10 cms of snow in Ontario Saturday! No harm done to the hostas, in fact a couple of them actually grew a few inches on that day. I was VERY surprized!
Snow's all gone now though.

Re: Any Natural Slug Control Work?
Thanks very much for all your answers, Kas (LOL), Nanny, Sugar, Tigger and Noreaster (ew, that's some slug!) I guess it's pretty much unanimous that you all like the ammonia treatment. I had not come across that one in my searching, so I'm really glad I asked you! Thanks again, and happy gardening. ...

Any Natural Slug Control Work?
I love some advice on what works for slugs on hostas. I can't use pesticides because we have a lot of birds, a cat, a creek and it's against the law in Ontario now! I've tried beer in a saucer and have had some limited success. I've been reading on the 'net that coffee grinds and crushed up egg shel...

Re: What are you looking forward to this mud season?
Hi Chris et al, In my area of Ontario, we seem to be skipping the mud season and going right to spring! (But all that could change.) My favourite part about this time of year is the daily inspections on the garden to see what is coming up. I have crocuses, daffodils and muscari poking up in my sunni...

Re: When To Cut Back the Daylilies
Thanks John. That makes sense to cut them back, but not all the way. I find it interesting that you said 'a lot' (but not all?) of your daylilies want to go dormant. I find that my smaller ones (like Pandora's Box) still have lovely green leaves, but the larger ones start to look messy. Interesting!...

When To Cut Back the Daylilies
Some of my daylilies (that are finished blooming) are starting to look a little unsightly and covering up other things that are still blooming.
Is it okay to trim the leaves back now (and if so how far) or do they need their leaves for nourishment?
Best regards, Diane

Wow...you have all those hostas? (I have about ten.) And some of those are duplicates. LOL. Thanks for saying Hudson is a distinguished name. His SPCA name was 'Skippy' and that just wouldn't do! When we picked him up (after renaming him Hudson, after Henry Hudson the explorer and the Hudson Hornet ...

My Four-Legged Amigo
Well, okay since you all have such nice pet pics, here's the furry love of our life, Hudson the Cat. Adopted from the SPCA a year and a half ago. He was 'two or three' at the time, but I think it was closer to two. He loves attention and being touched. He's not much for toys or catnip, but loves to ...
