Re: Hallson Summer Hosta Swap

I got my package today from morgansrgr8! Thanks so much for all the goodies! :D It's like Christmas in July. I received the following hosta: Quill, Imp, Mister Watson, Miss Linda Smith, Bill Dress's Blue and X-Ray. Then she attached little metal tags for my convenience! Thanks so much for that added...

Re: Hallson Summer Hosta Swap

Dave,

I am so glad you like your plants. I was very happy to see your list updated to include the ones you didn't have in your collection! It made it so easy to choose for you! I've ordered from Hallson's before, so I know you'll be very happy with the size of the plants.

Invincible Spirit looks leggy

I have lots of beautiful blooms on my Invincible Spirit, but the stems look bare. Should I be trimming it back harder in the spring to promote new leaf growth and thicken up the plant? I usually just prune off the dead blooms from the past year.

Thanks for any advice!

Re: Hallson Summer Hosta Swap

Thanks for the private message about this swap! I'll join in the fun, but it's been a long time since I've been here, so I'm not sure if I even have a list of my hosta...and if I do, it's got to be updated!

Well...looks like I do have a list on here! I gotta get out more!

Re: Do you have a favorite newly acquired plant this year?

My favorite new (to me) hosta would have to be Nougat. I hope that it doesn't end up like my White Feather. It died a slow, painful death. So far it's a cute one. I also got Ripple Effect, and really like it.

Springtime prep for Elephant Ear?

I cut back an elephant ear and left it in the pot in a cool garage for the winter. Now that it's getting warmer should I start watering the plant or just leave it alone until it's ready to take back outside?

Thanks,
Rose

High Society, Squash Casserole, Gunther's Prize and Blaze of Glory still look very pretty. Potomac Pride and Wolverine are among many of mine that look sad!

Dividing now or next spring?

A fellow hostaholic and I are making lists for a trade next year. I was wondering if there are any benefits to dividing plants now, or just wait until they start coming up next spring? Would there be better root development if I were to split them now and plant them in the ground for the winter? I'd...

Re: I thought orioles left for the season?

We still have several around the grape jelly and hummingbird feeders. They have been fighting each other for the food, so I'm assuming that this is the last feeding frenzy before they take off for the winter. Where has the summer gone?
