Re: Dang snow crushed our production shade house :(

Pia, I cannot imagine weeds at this point. I can barely remember what they look like.
It's been white, white, white here for weeks, and will be for quite a while. And SOOOO cold. :frosty:

Re: Dang snow crushed our production shade house :(

 Stupid winter weather! It's been a doozy already, and there are still many weeks to go! Glad you were not out there when it went down, and hope it isn't too big a fix in the spring. Still, all that work....................... :bawl:

Re: Weather

Our high for Monday is predicted to be -13, with a low somewhere around -20 something. That's a little too cold for me. We're trying to get out of here to head for Texas but have to wait for the cold to moderate a little. We've had snow on the ground for over a month, and it's pretty deep in places....

Re: Idiots Bubu Bahati Episode 2 Nairobi

I'm so glad that you napped during Episode 1, and rested during the morning of Episode 2, or that shopping trip may have done you in altogether. There are a couple of things in those photos, other than the wonderful colors and beautiful compositions, of course, that have caught my eye. Are those cab...

Re: New granddaughter!

I know, LG! He has a list of nicknames for daughter #1, whose name is Evelyn Lorraine. He'll probably have a list for this one too. I will definitely not be calling her Chuck!! I did finally get used to Evie for Evelyn, and over time if they do call her Charlie, I'll probably get used to that too. M...

Re: New granddaughter!

My son has already decided that he's going to call her Chuck. Her 'official' nickname is Charlie. That will be a little hard for me, since I have a brother named Charlie. Such a sweet little girl really doesn't look like her name should be Chuck, but that's my son for you. Can't wait to get up to se...

New granddaughter!

It's been a while since we had any new baby pics in our Hallson family. Here's my newest granddaughter, born December 26. She wasn't due until mid-January but just couldn't wait. Her middle name is for John's mom, who has Alzheimer's and doesn't know any of us anymore, so she doesn't know that she h...

Re: Hosta Ann Kulpa

My picture was a little too big for you to see all of the plant. It's gotten some good size to it in the last couple of years, and hasn't even been bothered much by two years of drought. It's actually one of the better growing white centered plants I have. I happen to have a good clone of Cascades t...

Chuckling at the shameless pandering, but of course I will be happy to try to help you win that additional $1K. That would be 'awesome'.

Re: Where you all might be?

Can't wait to see what you'll have next year, Chris! And karma, those are really cool bags. I like your spiders too. Someone in town was making them but they aren't as neat as yours are. Hers were a little wonky. ;) Cute, but wonky. I am not sure what I'm going to do about pictures on the trip this ...

Re: Where you all might be?

Not me! Our family opened gifts Sunday, so shopping is all done. But I have been trying to help out more with the snowman project, and getting ready to pack up and head for Texas right after the first of the year.

Re: What do you think of this hosta seedling?

My thoughts about it are that you could give it a garden name, and then if someone is insistent on having a piece of it for their garden, divide and sell only at your nursery. I've grown some Lakeside Surf Rider seedlings, and some are pretty impressive in size but nothing I will probably ever regis...

The Snowman Project

I mentioned in my 'new house' thread that I would make a post about the Snowman Project. Last year, Linda Cunningham (rainyday here on the forum; some of you from the forum have met her) decided that she would show Josh's mom Sue and her friends how to make the snowmen she designed from papercrete. ...

Re: Hosta Ann Kulpa

Mine came as a division of Marvelous Marlys Anderson's plant, and it has grown steadily. It's in a lot of shade, and looks good all summer. I agree that it's one worth waiting for.

Re: Pic of the Day--Key Lime Pie

My Key Lime Pie is huge. In the pic it's companions are Heart's Content and Liberty. It's giving them a run for the money in size. It gets sun until around noon, and doesn't seem to mind at all. The only problem I have with it is that I didn't give it nearly enough room and I keep hitting the outer ...

Re: We have a 'new' house!

Thanks, everyone. Pia, I like them too. The ones I had my eye on were way out of the budget. I found these at a do-it-yourself store and wasn't sure they would be big enough, but they do add the nod to the past that I was looking for.

Re: We have a 'new' house!

Phyllis, I did attempt to tell her that but she cut me off and went on to the next question. She didn't like it at all that I was trying to explain the amount of work it is. She also told me that she tells her husband when he comes home from a day of working on his dad's farm that he doesn't have an...
