I like that you have a separate place for little hostas! The Razor's Edge acts more like a medium in my garden:

My NOID looks like Krossa Regal
Hoping to get some ideas on this NOID. I got it in trade a few years ago (2009?) by someone who said they thought it was "one of Hillier's blues." Yeah, no clue. But it was small and cute and blue, so I stuck it at the front of a bed and left it there. I replanted it a few times because that bed has...

Re: Hosta of the year ... in your garden.
Ivory Coast has had a nice growth spurt this year. But Marilyn Monroe and Luna Moth are (finally) looking really good this year.

Re: Sick of weeding already
Yeah, my weeds are abundant this year. And I don't use any herbicides, so that means it's just me and my hands/tools. I wasn't able to get out there until Memorial Weekend, so things were pretty bad. :( Now I just do one bed at a time then take a picture of things looking all pretty. It's my memento...

I just moved Queen of the Seas there in May. She's still looking pretty upright as of June 6: http://i1158.photobucket.com/albums/p603/Eleven-ish/2014%20Hostas/HostaQueenoftheSeas2014-0604.jpg Here is a pic from last summer: http://i1158.photobucket.com/albums/p603/Eleven-ish/2013%20Hostas/HostaQuee...

My newest hosta bed
I had a bad spot under a pine tree that tried to kill just about everything I planted there. So last September I decided to get rid of it. Here's what it looked like on September 8, 2013, when I started: http://i59.tinypic.com/2d1s2sw.jpg And the following day September 9, 2013: http://i61.tinypic.c...

Re: Who is collecting seed and what do you have?
I hadn't thought about collecting seed, but I certainly can if anyone is interested. Let me verify what plants still have pods.
Collected:
Atlantis
Journey's End
Komodo Dragon
Mountain Snow
Paradigm
Rainforest Sunrise
Sum and Substance
Have pods:
Summer Breeze
The Razor's Edge

Sept 23 Metro Detroit Hosta Society meeting
Will anyone here be attending this meeting? Don Rawson scheduled to give a talk on "All About Hostas". I've been meaning to join my local society for a while now, so I just emailed the MHS asking for contact details. Mostly I just need to confirm the meeting time and location. Anyway, hope to see so...

Ed, someone posted over on Garden Web the same issue with Grape Fizz. Said it had to do with the recent cool weather.

Re: Tempation!!!
Haha, I already placed two fall hosta orders after saying I wouldn't this year. On the not so bright side, I think I've identified 4 of mine that have foliar nematodes. Two are new from last year, so I will probably just pitch them. The third is a cute Rainbow's End that I got from Hallson's a coupl...

Re: Plain hosta seedlings
Funny, but I only have 3 seedlings from my six growing seasons in this house. So I haven't tossed any of them yet :D I did pull them out of the ground awhile back, and they're growing faster now. The one on the left is actually a year older than the other two, lol. I think I'm better at the already ...

I like the way the ribs show on the smooth leaves. And the color progression is just like Fragrant Dream, one of my favorites. The dark bases of the petioles is certainly interesting!

Thanks for sharing. I think my favorites of these are Red Dragon and Ogan Tachi. I have a small Aomori Gold Star, but it's under a tree and not looking to flower this year.

Re: Any idea what this hosta is?
I did ask the trader what it could be. He'd bought it as Lakeside Cupcake :???: and gave it away to a neighbor when I pointed out the issue. He also said maybe it could be Wolverine? Uhm, no, the leaves aren't long enough. The leaves also don't look like Heartsong to me. It does kind of remind me of...

Re: Hosta bed planning
I mostly moved them for color. Queen of the Seas needed to go further back because it lost the glaucous bloom in the sun. Although Grand Canyon could use more sun to be brighter, Krossa Regal can take a surprising amount even though it's blue.

Re: Hosta bed planning
I completely didn't expect to see that when I looked! I don't have any recent pics of changes to bed (just a couple), but I keep notes on DG of what I've done. http://davesgarden.com/community/blogs/t/Eleven/14022/ That bed is the second one I've undertaken, and it's still been a huge learning...
