Re: 'World Cup' - hosta of the day - please add your photos

This is our 'World Cup' in July 2012. It is now (Fall 2015) 22" H and 30+"W. It's an absolutely gorgeous hosta that given the right light goes a beautiful yellow/gold especially when the hosta matures and becomes heavily corrugated. A must have.

Re: Flea Beetle damage to hosta leaves

Guess I should plant some horseradish around the garden next spring !! The damage is not all over the garden. In fact the area that got hit last year is fine this year. The damage appears "out of the blue" and I've only ever seen the darn things on a couple of occasions. We thought originally that i...

Re: Flea Beetle damage to hosta leaves

Hi Thy, Thanks for the suggestion. I did some quick research on Pyrethrum and came up with the following. We have added beneficial nematodes and Praying Mantis to our gardens this year so using this product would wipe them out. As well, like all pesticides that are used for "cosmetic" reasons, it is...

Re: Flea Beetle damage to hosta leaves

Chris.....have windshield washer bottle "can travel" if you get my drift !!! However, with dogs and cats it's not really the best option. As well, with 1650 hostas in the gardens it's alot of pesticide to be spraying.

Flea Beetle damage to hosta leaves

Once again this year it appears that hosta growers everywhere have been hit with flea beetle damage. The leaves of our hostas appear to have been the target of a deranged hosta hater with a shotgun.....tiny holes everywhere. It seems you just get the slugs and snails under control and these darn pes...

Re: hungry deer

I have been doing some research on Alpaca manure and Alpaca poop as a soil ammender / additive and came across a couple articles that suggested that making a tea out of their droppings will keep the dear away when spread in the garden. If you work at a zoo I'm sure they have Alpacas around. I picked...

Re: Yet another nematode discussion

It seems that nematodes are showing up more and more with the change in our climate ....as well as higher UV levels and dryer summers. Could we be getting more nematode infestations because we are depending more and more on compost and mulches that may or may not have been heated up enough to get ri...
