I think the issue with the effectiveness of bleach is contact time. Spraying a bleach solution on a tool and wiping off reduces the time the bleach is in contact with the material on the tool. The “don’t wipe” idea is not that you need to let the bleach dry, but to have the bleach stay in contact wi...

HVX in Overland Park and Shawnee Kansas

I’ve seen HVX at Lowe’s here in the Kansas City area and also at one of the larger nurseries. Sad, because I know this nursery has been told, and I’m pretty sure they had virus plants found by the department of agriculture last season, and then they have Gold Standard with ink bleed stripes on them....

Pretty much the same here

I was at the Lowe’s in Shawnee Kansas the other day, the Golden Tiara are really bad. They looked like someone had sponge painted dark green on the leaves. So Sweet was pretty deformed, and the Gold Standard were still green in the center, so I wouldn’t expect to see any symptoms on those yet. What ...

Thanks Chris. We have a sign and a handout about HVX. I did want to add a couple of photos showing something other than the “sharpie on newsprint” look that I had seen here. As far as my pictures, anyone is welcome to print, forward, or otherwise use for personal use, show or give to your local nurs...

Chris, There were a couple of different varieties, tagged as hosta “assorted”. The damaged on the darker ones looks a lot like the infected ‘Blue Cadet’ I saw at Lowe’s last week. Here’s another photo. I’ve never had a plant that showed the tan/brown dry scale patches. I don’t know how long it takes...

What do you think? I saw some very bad looking plants at a local hardware store's garden center. One was set aside, I hope they don't go around trimming off the bad leaves.

Here is an update on a virus-infected plant shown in an HVX thread last year.

The original photo was taken last July and here is the same plant today. There is a significant difference in the leaf texture and distortion from last year to this spring but none of the “ink bleed” markings.
