To make it easier and quicker than a shrub growth rate could you paint the fence?

Re: Pic of the Day--Barbara Ann ?

That looks a little to green for Barbara Ann to me. Perhaps it's the light on the photos my so called Barbera Ann is much bluer.

If I saw any of mine doing that I would be tempted to bin them. Not like, looks too similar to HVX to me

Re: Planting depth

Over here I tend to plant not too deep. Some now have what I guess are eyes showing (purple pointed growth) and Brown husky parts (crowns?) I tend to leave them to it they survive whatever the weather throws at them. I have in the past covered them and it seems to make no difference to growth at all...

Re: Fall growing

Can it not also depend on the variety, I mean my Junes look as fresh as they have done all year. They are always last down well to end November, when all others have given up and been cleaned of mushy leaves.

Re: Update on some sports

The second set of pictures (Striptease sport) look very similar5 to what some of my Hyacinthina did this year. Started to get slight lighter streaks on them. I have divided it off but up to now it hasn't shown much promise. If it doesn't make any porgress next year I think it will be the bin.

Re: whats your fall garden chores for your Hosta's

I leave mine till they turn to mush then tidy everything up. I think it gives less in the way of cover for slugs, plus it looks neater.

Re: Hosta of the Day - Lacy Belle

Paul in Mn..... looking at your picture of LB at first glance I would definately thought Wolverine, yet when I had my LB next to my W there was a striking differene LB was the more elegant and more striking of the two. Strange how having 2 very similar looking hostas with similar habits next to each...

Re: Hosta of the Day - Lacy Belle

This to mw is a lovely hosta, and a decent grower. very eye catching in early spring. Mine was similar in habit (and looks) to Wolverine but alas it died after a few years. Wolvering got similar but I managed to take some tint divisiond off her and save it. If I remember right Lacy Belle was a slug ...

Re: Is it too late for planting in Z4?

Personally I would say plant now but I am not understanding this zone thing really. I am in England UK. All my plants are in pots as I have no garden to plant into, however my opinion is, if they have survived in the ground that length of time then dividing should make no odds as they have already s...

Re: Sun tolerance of Jewel of the Nile?

I am guessing it's because it's new and needs to get established a little. I don't know JOTN never had any experince with that one.

I didnt think BB got to a big size however as all my plants are in pots it doesnt really matter I can move them about at will. Sometimes not having an actual garden can work to an advantage.

Re: Hosta Identity Crisis

It could be a Honeybells however from my experince with Hb it didn't get leaves as big as yours. Hb is very similar to RS as are a lot of the other Plantigina sports. I do like the look of your Bressingham Blue though, didn't realise they got to that size, I got a small one (on offer) this year and ...

My Emma was like that took forever to get to any size, and to be honest couldnt see much difference between Emma and RS other than growth rate.
