Funny/odd/coincidental that I should find Teucrium canadense here on the farm for the first time so soon after Phyllis asked for help in IDing it.

Re: Isn't there any news from anyone else???

You are right, Phyllis: frst is nothing to joke about! KHT, I would be dead! Cold chills race down my back when I read about being attacked by yellowjackets. My gardening (and other) days will be over when I can no longer run faster than they fly. With great reluctance I finally went to Facebook. Mo...

Re: Returned from PEI.

Impatiens glandulifera is considered a noxious weed, I am told, Phyllis. It was not yet setting seed or I might have collected some. A couple of friends tell me, though, that they cut it back before it makes seeds and they have been able to keep it under control for 20 years and more. Still, all yo...

Returned from PEI.

Cannot find this roadside and meadow plant through google or in any of my wildflower books. Surely it must grow somewhere else in the NE as well? It is not fireweed but grows in association with it.

Maybe scarves were trendy, too? Wash and wear hair is easy, though; no more home perms.

Gardens on PEI?

We used to have members on PEI; do we still? Any must-see gardens there? I will be there for part of next week.

I have a 'Blueberry Waffles' that did it this year; it would be very surprising to see it repeated.

Re: I think that I shall never see.....

There are many species of ash. That straight trunk is a strong indication. As to the Viburnum, check out V. lentago.

Re: I think that I shall never see.....

Ash is the most likely one. The other one may be a shrub, one of the native Viburnums. The species may come to mind once I have more coffee.

Phyllis grows blue vervain, Linda, so she knows it is not that one...unless there is another blue vervain?

A high-N, soluble fertilizer should improve the color, too, and possibly faster.

Re: A forest in my new lawn!

Before I had it cut down, a large ash used to produce lots of seedlings in the perennial beds. Black walnut seedlings come up wherever squirrels bury the nuts. Black locust seedlings come up in the hay fields. Then there are all the native dogwood shrubs, Virginia creeper, grape vines, buckthorn, po...

Re: A forest in my new lawn!

"The neighbor has a willow tree in his front yard that grows out little seedlings all over his lawn, but they are attached to the root system and impossible to keep from regrowing when he mows over them." If they are attached to mama, they are not seedlings but suckers. It did occur to me, too, that...

H. ventricosa is a larger plant than 'LS Black Satin' and has purple flowers. The flowers in your photos are too light unless they (the photos) are overexposed.

I would say the top one is infected for sure. The other one is 'Patriot', which is easily and inexpensively replaced, so I would eliminate both.
