I made this yesterday and it tasted just like yours, Trudy. Everyone thought it was delicious. The meat mgr at Fareway asked me about the recipe and I pulled the jar of pepperoncinis out of the cart and told him how to make it. I think I forgot to tell him about the beef boullion though :-? . I will...

This meat was delicious! I was surprised when Trudy sent me the recipe as I really thought it had lots of different spices in it. You put the pepperoncinis in juice and all. I can't wait to fix this.

Yes, it was a great Hosta Day with wonderful old friends. I too came home with a large Regalia, Whiskey Sour and a Lakeside Rocky Top from the exchange. The gardens were all lovely as always. These gals really know how to plant and maintain perfect gardens. The work and love they put into theirs is ...

thanks for the info. I will pass it on to her when I next see her. She will be thrilled to hear that yours always came back after being flooded. I'm not sure how much current there is . Probably was moving quite rapidly like most pictures show. A call to the extension office might be in order when t...

Will hostas survive a flood?

I asked this question on the Garden Bench when responding to question about the Iowa floods. I had a lady visit me today and she wanted to know if I thought her hostas would survive the flooding. They were evacuated from their home earlier this week and are staying in their lake cottage here. They h...

We're practically neighbors! We live probably 20 miles or less from Tama. As I am sitting here on the computer, I am again watching Tama get hit by storms. There are more heading towards us too within next half hour or so.

Jane you MUST try this! If you like a nice crusty hearty bread you will love it! Everyone that's tried it can't believe how nice it comes out. Just remember to heat that pot for a half hour before dumping in the bread. Let me know what u think!! Make sure to use cast iron and not aluminum. I would s...

No Knead Bread...this is absolutely incredible!

I have been making this bread for the last few weeks. It is so simple to make. Only takes about 2 mins to stir it up and cover it till next day. Then just dump it out and fold it over and let sit till ready to throw it into an iron kettle in oven. You won't believe how wonderful these loaves are. Ev...

OK Karma, thanks! Both plants are covered in blooms yet, but I notice the blooms are smaller than earlier. I guess it is getting ready for bed. Poor thing is going to look stark naked without leaves. LOL! Probably shouldn't water it very much.

Karma, or anyone that can advise me: I had been looking all over the internet about what to do with my Mandevillas I bought this year. Didn't see this post till today. Have couple questions: I found instructions that said to feed them with 10-56-14 and slowly harden them off. Then cut to 6 to 12 inc...

Thanks! I really like them and think I will plant some seeds in ground after frost danger has passed. Also will try a few in the peat pots and maybe they would transplant better that way. Will post pics next summer if they do well.

Hyacinth Bean Vine

We were in the Amana Colonies last week and spotted the beautiful vines along a split rail fence. they were covered with deep purple blooms and had large reddish purple pods. I was told they were Hyacinth Beans, and brought home some seeds. Now how to I proceed? We live on border of zone 4/5. Do I s...

Very nice Jane and I am glad you got your shed. I have one of those concrete benches just like that. They are virtually indestructible. I have purchased others since then that are made of wood and they are rotting already. Your garden is progressing nicely.

After buying lightweight markers from several companies and having them get caught in the rake and winding up in the burn pile, I've come up with another solution. Sounds crazy, but I have been buying all the stainless steel butter knives I can find. I get them for a dime or up to 25 cents each at t...

Glad you and Betty are "hanging in there", Hank. When you say the hill is unstable by the neighbors are you referring to the people's property directly below you? That is pretty close. Glad you didn't lose anymore of that driveway. Can you still make it up that hill or do you have to park at the bot...
