Thanks, Chris. I checked the link, and see there are 8 or 9,000 species, so making an i.d. is hard. I note that these things are causing distorted growth on the ends of the shoots.

I will attach some photographs of an insect pest which is attacking my Hibiscus syriacus, the Rose-of-Sharon.

I would appreciate help identifying this pest, as well as ideas for how best to treat against it.

Technically, you can't be sure if FT was the pod or the pollen parent, so you'd have to register it as unknown x unknown (since you couldn't place the name of FT properly.] You could of course provide the information that your plant is most likely out of FT elsewhere.

Didn't take any more photos, but today each one of those white bulbous things has turned into another... red-orange thing. Really gross looking. Love the exorcism story, Viktoria. Here is a photo and closeup of something shocking that appeared overnight (?) in my Hosta Garden, near the Bletilla hardy orchids. I am guessing it is a fungus? The ball-like things are about 1" wide, the red-orange tongue thing is about 6" long. The whole plant is growing quite close to the ground....

I'd suggest waiting until the roots begin to fill the container, then plant in the soil in the better location. Perhaps not too much sun? so the white stays fresh?

Pandora, the idea is to just overwinter it, not keep it growing, so either one would be fine, wherever you can better spare the room. I'll be experimenting with my gorgeous new red one myself.

The best idea would be to leave it in its container, and cut it back to about 12" tall. Water only enough to keep it from completely drying out.
