Please help identify a friend's green Hosta

The enclosed pictures show the plant, which is of interest for its 360 degree flower placement around its scapes and the near-blue color of its flowers. The leaves are 14" long by 7" wide with 14 vein pairs, and look like it's from Montana heritage. The plant is about 4' wide by 2 1/2' high, and yes...

Party Favor * Jade Cascade

Now you need to turn it yellow or blue. Otherwise you just have a larger 'Party Favor,' which is one of my favorites for bringing waviness into the mix.

'Lakeside Baby Face'

Chris, I don't know where you have LBF planted, but I strongly disagree. A leaf of mine won me Best of Section at our last year's WNYHS leaf show. It consistantly produces beautifuel leaves on a very pretty small clump. The dark green center edged in wavy cream margins is a pretty sight. I liked it ...

Seedlings

That first one may prove interesting depending on how it settles out. Blue and cream/white.

Early blooming reds

Look for yellows with red legs. Yellows usually bloom earlier.

How about Glen Aurum. Means gold, just in case, so you don't have to look it up.

Kudos to everyone responsible for First Look 7

The best First Look ever. Kudos to Carol Brashear, Bill Meyer, Kent Terpening, and everyone involved in planning and executing a great weekend happening. A special award should be given to the group that ran the hospitality room. GREAT food (They served Friday night dinner!!), plent of liquid refres...

Viktoria's winner

Actually, Viktoria, you did better than best of section, which would have been only the medium yellows. You took Best of Class.

Congratulations!

Crown rot

Cedarleaf, how expensive, and is there a difference between the two? Generally available without an applicator's license?

Also, what's available in Iowa may be banned by the all-knowing despots in Albany, NY.

Mystery Tardiana

A 10 yr. old 'Halcyon' would be about 3 feet across. This looks much smaller. If the flowers barely get to the top of the leaves, it's 'Blue Moon.' Otherwise, 'Dorset Blue' is the likely choice. 'Blue Jay' wasn't readily available at the time you got these.

Nematodes

You can get leaf damage from slugs or physical damage by blowing lawners discharge, fallen twigs, or any other way to put holes in the leaves. This tissue then can turn brown (bacteria or fungus) and the holes can elongate, turn brown, and eventually wither away. If this damage is only BETWEEN the v...

Crown rot

I, too, have had the problem this year, and far more than ever before. Don't know what the cause is, but crown rot, I'm told by the experts, is a bacterial problem. Fungicides won't work. Bleach or hydrogen peroxide will.

Pollen

Pat, try this. The night before you want the pollen, or to cross that Hosta as pod parent, strip the flower as Charla reminded you, remove anthers from the stamens, and store them in paper where it's not too hot. I store them in my garage, but nights aren't hot in the Buffalo area. I fold 4" square ...

Ajuga 'Burgandy Glow'

WARNING! When Ajuga 'Burgandy Glow' reverts to plain green, or even bronze Ajuga, it becomes a rampant weed. I, too, fell for the pretty face of Ajuga 'Burgandy Glow'. Now I regret it.

Thumbelina

With all the talk about Witches Brew, I thought I'd post a picture of my Thumbelina. It's currently holding at bay the evil spruce tree roots where it's called home for three or four years. Measured today 18" x 7".

Upright green?

If green will do, just look back at Barbara's 'Lakeside Ripples' in the recent post.
