Time to Start the 2010 Veggie Garden?

I'm placing my Park Seed order tonight. The garden is waiting another day or to two to dry out before tilling, then I hope to get some early plants out there in late April/early May. Still a slight chance of frost here, but crossing my fingers that we won't get anything too harsh once I've started. ...

Re: Yikes, first hostas unfurled today!

Yep, Lancifolia is up and unfurling. Several others are starting to unfurl, and many other eyes are actually up out of the ground several inches, like big spikes, so I'll see more unfurling every day. Last week was very warm (70's) followed by rain over the weekend and then two more sunny days. That...

Re: Chipmonks and corn?

Last year we had good luck with an idea my husband came up with. At Menards we bought a roll of bird netting and some 8-foot garden stakes. We put the stakes around the garden about 6 or 8 or 10 feet apart. Then we unrolled the bird netting, which is maybe 8 or 10 feet wide, and draped it up against...

Re: Question on Morning Glories

One year I bought a plant when I was buying my flats of annuals at the store. I planted it out by the garden and it did great. It self-seeded and I've had Morning Glories in that spot ever since. No special care, they just come up volunteer and I yank out whatever I don't want.

Re: What are you looking forward to this mud season?

"Mud Season" :D I always called this "Ugly Time" . . . everything is brown, all the dead the foliage that was covered by snow in the winter is now exposed. Everything is mushy and muddy, tracking everywhere. Even worse, it's too early to get out there and start cleaning up because we are still likel...

Re: A small pet peeve of mine (and I say this with a grin)...

I'm in my mid-forties. I haven't been to school or written a paper that was "graded" for grammar in 25 years. I've written plenty of business papers, bid responses, technical papers, presentations, and so forth. I feel as though I'm a fairly competent writer. But this week I started freaking out abo...

In just a couple months spring will be here and I'll have RHUBARB and can try these recipes . . . .Thanks!! ( . . . . or maybe lurki...

Re: My Valentines Dinner 2010

Thanks Alexa! I noticed the Shrimp is from Barefoot Contessa. I like her cooking style and often have good luck with her recipes, so this should be a sure-fire hit with me! The recipes are printing and will be put in a folder in the kitchen which holds the recipes I will be trying next. I hope my ve...

Re: A small pet peeve of mine (and I say this with a grin)...

I am hesitant to reply here, I'm sure my posts have ample examples of poor grammar and misuse of the English language. Regardless, there are some things which catch my eye every time I come across them. In addition to the examples already cited, I cringe when I see "then" used in place of "than", as...

Yes, of course post the recipes!! It all looks delish and your close-up pics are absolutely mouth-watering! The asparagus w/ prosciutto and the baked shrimp scampi are my favorites already! And I love the little parmesan crisp cups for the salad. My Valentines Dinner? Well, I had to assist with a ba...

Awww, how precious! Hubby and I were just talking the other day about whether or not our cat would accept another. He's pretty mild-mannered so it might work out. That's funny about how you "purr tested" them first! Debbie, it's good to see a new pic of your four cats. That one sure looks funn...

Re: Sand Cherry?

I agree with both posts, yet, it is very pretty in all seasons, the reddish limbs, the red leaves and the pretty blooms. I had the same problems with rabbits. They would gnaw on any branches they could reach and when the snow was deep they could get to the smaller, tastier branches. The only problem...

Thanks for the closer pics. Very cool how you accented the print of the fabric (boxers  ) with the pins and buttons.

Re: Too late for an XXmas craft??

Never to late for Christmas crafts, they are year 'round around here! As a matter of fact, while putting ornaments away yesterday I got my camera a took a close-up photo of the details of a handmade ornament so I could attempt it myself during the year. Heck, if I don't start my Christmas crafts in ...
