Re: I had a spare mirror
It actually worked great in Steve's garden - he has one of those long narrow city lots. In our case - it just looks kind of neat!

I still plan on framing it properly and installing fake muntin bars on it - should discourage them but then I have birds flying into regular windows ....
Hey Chris - tell Brian to get his decorating hat out and use it outdoors - you guys could have a riot with mirrors! I Know I'm not done yet!!

Reworking a bed
Had this garden bed that was being seriously under-utilized. And after finishing the pool deck, I had all these paving stones not being used. And after some of the garden mapping has been done, we've found some seriously under-performing hostas. And we have a bunch of new hostas needing a home .... ...

Re: Why I had to become a fern detective - Adiatum 'Imbricat
Depending on the height, that first picture you have up there actually looks a bit like Adiantum Aleuticum "Subpumilum" but the other two certainly also have that look. Imbricatum supposedly grows from 6 - 12 inches in height while the Subpumilum is in the 3 - 6 inch range. According to my book, the...

Just finished checking out our beds - everything is asleep for the winter except for a very confused viburnum and a very tough anemone!

Anemone question
I have been semi-busy cleaning up the beds for winter and here I find 1 plant still flowering merrily away. NOW - being that it is the 24th of November (happy Turkey day to all of our American friends) and it being CANADA - this has to be the toughest anemone I have seen yet. The question I have is ...

Still going strong
It's mid to late October here at Shades of Green and I found this still flowering strongly in our gardens.
And NO (to those certain smart-alecks that we know and "love") - there is no snow here in Canada (yet)!!

Re: Continuation of the dry stream bed project
We completed the final phase of the bog pond (took the level down to 16 inches) While we were at it - I redid the garden to the right (Lynn came home with a bunch of new hostas from the OHS auction on Sunday) Also slowly redoing the bed to the left of the bog pond - now we need plants for the bog it...

Continuation of the dry stream bed project
I continued on with the dry stream bed project - now we are putting in a small bog pond ( I think that I need to dig it down a few more inches)

Dry streambed project
Ok - this is a project that we started on 2 years ago and are finally getting around to working on some more. It's a dry streambed that does catch the rainflow off of our driveway during monsoon season and directs the water down to what will be a small bogpond (in progress as we chat) and then into ...
