Pia, in addition to his titles, I've also trained Thunder in live search, cadaver search, water search and article search. I was on a Search and Rescue (SAR) team but left for political reasons. To many cheifs and not enough indians. When I left, so did half of the team. They started another organiz...

I don't look at intelligence and trainability as being the same thing. A dogs temperment/personality can be a huge influence on how much it can learn. Same with it's genetics. All of our club German Shepherd Dogs are either bred from, or imported dogs. The American Show line of GSD have been bred fo...

Charla, there are a lot of Schutzhund clubs out there but so many still train with to much defense on young dogs. We train all motivational, even the bite work. Thunder has a very serious side to him but has an incredible off/on switch. That comes form his breeding as much as his training. There are...

Alwaus keep in the back of your head that, once Joey truely settles in, the social structure could change. I still don't forsee any serious problems though. Family is all doing great. Still baby sitting three of the gkids 2-3 times a week  . At least all but one is out of diapers now. Dog...

Hey Pia! I got an e-mail from a little bird today and she asked if I might drop in and look at your situation. bottom line is you have two very normal dogs. They seem to get along fine other then the bone issue. That's quite normal. A bone can bring out the worst in the best of buddies. It would be ...

I haven't been on forever so I hope this isn't a done deal. Introduce the two dogs on neutral territory. That should take away any "need" for the present dog to "defend" his territory. That wil go a long way in helping you decide if this will work. They will still have to work out who's the boss but...

Great choice sis! The Pap is the only toy breed to be ranked in the top ten breeds for being the most trainable. Sorry I wasn't home when you called. I dodn't seem to EVER be home anymore. Best training book is Purely Positive training by Shelia Booth. She had a big part in the Positive train...

Perfect example of my favorite saying at the beginning of each new obedience class when I taught those. "The only thing wrong with your dog is the idiot at the other end of the leash"! The dog is young enough that IF the problems aren't genetic, it should make a nice recovery with lots of sociolizat...
