Re: The drought of '09

We had a good long rain here today, hopefully it's headed your way. You post took me by surprise, I thought most of the midwest was getting the same weather we are. This is the first time in years (maybe ever) that I have made it to August without ever having to water. Other than giving new plants a...

Re: Butterflies and a flower pic

Wow Annie, those are cool. But that first one . . . WOW!! I love how the petals are up on one flower and down on the other, and the butterfly wings look like stained glass, I think I see a shadow of stems through one of the orange spots. That's some FANTASTIC photography!

Oh, those look nice! :D I always like to include sweet potato vine and coleus in my annual containers. The barrel has perennials in it . . . are you able to overwinter them in the container successfully?

Re: what is this??

I agree, looks like sun damage. The leaf on the left, where the edge of the damage seems to be in a straight line across the leaf. And the leaf directly behind and above it was damaged too (looks like the edge of the leafe is gone). That looks like two hostas that I have on the east side of my house...

Re: Vegetable garden today

That's a nice garden, especially with the flowers.

Are you protecting beans or peppers under that row cover? We finally put up a 6-foot high fence made of bird netting to keep out the deer and bunnies. Looks like you have some woods in the background there. Do you have critter problems?

Re: 2009 Veggie Garden

So you are getting the 90 degree weather, huh? Normally we would be sweltering right now, but it has been cooler than usual. We had one hot week about a month ago, since then it's been very mild. I never thought I would say this . . . but I'd love to have some HOT weather, the garden really needs it...

Hi Karma! That looks great! :D

Our corn mostly straightened itself up after the storm and we have tassles and silk on the Ambrosia, with the Sugar Buns just couple days behind.

Hi Alexa! Special Angel is lightly scented. You also sent "Big Yellow NOID" (that's how I labeled it), which is the one you said that drew you in by the awesome smell and big bloom. It's planted next to Special Angel and is also blooming now . . . and smelling wonderful! :D PS - 3 open blooms on Foo...

Re: 11 July 2009 MORE named Daylilies...

I like that Green Widow. The second one, which you are breeding with for shape, is interesting. I've never seen a bell (or tulip) shaped daylily. It's different, is it something new, or are there others out there like that? I'd have to see it in person to really decide if I like it or not.
