Dave Chopko has a yellow-margined kikutii that Stephen lusts after. Dave got it from Barry Yinger. I don't know if it's ever been offered at auction.

We also have Hyuga Urajiro and Mikawa-no-yuki. Lots of confusion in these forms.

Ed, you should check out the styles on Peacock Strut. The last centimeter is purple, at least on blooms I saw this year. (Sadly, no pollen for use in hybridizing!) I got one in a Hallson's secret swap back when we all did those. Clean, thankfully. It does have pretty blooms, although "burgundy" is quite a stretch.

It's a pity that there are a lot of interesting hosta coming out now with these problematic "recumbent" scapes. Still, I'm looking forward to seeing this one grow up.

Maria (Plater-Zyberk) thought that the base of the scapes was black, hence the name. Not many people have this, although I think Tony Avent might have sold it for a year or so. Ours is back in a hospital pen after we planted it in too dry a location, but it's prominently sited for next year's tour. ...

I guess my 2nd plant (from LOTG) is a dud, too. Outer petals just won't un-stick, even with some massaging. Buds are pretty, though.

Does (did) the base of that eye look eaten away or rotten away? If rotten you can usually smell it. If voles got it you won't find any roots or crown left.

Your hosta is cerainly not Royal Flush. Maybe the other garden has it labeled wrong? Royal Flush has a broad gold margin, heavily corrugated (textured) leaves, and no white backs.
