Re: Indoor Taro Care?

Thanks Karma, but I still have a few questions. I have a greenhouse, but I can't afford to heat it this winter. Right now they are in standing water. Since the roots are coming out of the baskets on the sides as well as the bottom, how much water should they get? Do I just treat them like a regular ...

Indoor Taro Care?

I just pulled my taro plants from my pond/stream. They are black taro, imperial taro and some unknown taros with green leaves and purple stems and some all green ones. Most are in 8" X 8" square plastic baskets that are 3" or 5" deep. Some are in 5" geranium pots. They are all planted in gravel mixe...

Re: Our Hummer Ed

What wonderful pictures.
I can see in the pictures how their feet are so tiny they can't get a good grip on the shepard's hook. I'm going to follow your idea and attach a smaller diameter branch to my shepard's hook.

Re: Hummingbird Ruby Throat

I love your pictures.
I had wondered what happened to the males. I didn't know they left earlier than females. I though something bad might have happened to them.

Re: Ice Cream Sandwich Dessert

How are you all drizzeling the hot fudge?? :hmm:
I microwaved mine and it felt warm but still came out in globs. I didn't want it so hot that it would melt the whip cream.
I drizzeled the caramel on top. It is in the freezer now but It would have looked nicer with some chocolate on top too.

Re: More Hollyhocks

I have some hollyhocks that a friend gave me the seeds in fall 2005 that took 3 years to bloom.I scattered them outside and they came up first in spring 2006. They are just the old fashioned single bloom ones. When they came up but didn't bloom in 2007, which was their second year I was really disap...

Re: Last bug and one I am killing!

I don't know what it is for sure but if it's a weevel, you'd better start checking your pantry. Weevels get in cerial, pasta, bread, cookies, flour, corn meal, dry beans, any grain product. I got them a couple times because I brought them home in dog biscuits once and another time in birds seed. the...

Re: Bell Pepper question

I was told that I was picking them too early. I thought the green ones were ready anytime and the red was ready when it colored up. I will leave them on the plant longer now and see how it goes. Some suggested thinning them to just 3 or 4 peppers per plant. I never thinned them before either. I had ...

Re: Pumpkins?

JaneG, Did you eat your pumpkin/acorn squash? I just wondered what it would taste like. I can't help with the ID. I'm growing sugar pumpkins this year for the first time. I read that they were high in vitamines and very versitile, you can eat them savory or sweet. They are supposed to last almost al...

Very handsom birds. It looks like they are flighted. Do you let them fly outside?
Do they come to you to be stroked and scratched like parrots do?

Bell Pepper question

I am growing several California Wonder green bell peppers and a couple Red Beauty Peppers. The ones I grow don't have as thick of a wall as the ones I buy in the stores. I asked a gardening friend who thought it was a different variety, but I looked it up and California wonder is listed as thick wal...

I love your bee balm bed. :D How big is it?
I am planting a bed especially for butterflys. I need to add some bee balm to it.

I haven't seen a monarchs yet either. I have seen lots of swallowtails and have found their cats on some parsley.
