Re: hosta Magnificent Michele

It looks a LOT like Deep Blue Sea which should be easy to find, or is it the name that appeals to you?

Re: Private Messaging Where?

I finally got my message away but it wasn't as easy as on the previous format.

Got hung up on the Recipient. When I hit Preview, recipient's name got deleted. Then I think I clicked on Add, then it worked. It's kind of confusing. Where will Private Message Arrived show up?

Re: So what are you doing in your hosta gardens these days?

Jan, I use a lot of mulches year 'round and never had a problem with crown rot. Ideally fall leaves should be added AFTER the ground freezes or at least after critters have already found their winter abodes to avoid them nesting in your garden. I leave the foliage on hosta plants until they're limp ...

Re: Nematodes..Guess I'll start it this year

I have been talking in terms of a bleach solution of 5-10% as the range recommended by Bruce Banyai, the chlorine dilution is actually much lower, BUT, it will depend on the brand of bleach you buy as to what the actual dilution of chlorine is. Haven't looked at a bottle of name brand bleach lately...

Re: Tropical storm Fay

If they would fit in your car, wouldn't they fit under your kitchen table or in the bathtub? Do they predict it'll last more than 24 hours? Stash them indoors in trash bags. Good luck whatever you do.

Re: Sent down to the minors - part 1

My hostas too, are standing shoulder to shoulder overlapping one another. This summer I've been potting up the duplicates and donating them to any good cause. It does make me feel good now to see mulch and air space around some of my favorites, and to think I paid a couple bucks for hostas that fetc...

I could have visited with you all for hours. Thanks for coming. The l...

Asparagus roots go down to China, don't think you can transplant them successfully. That might have been the farmer's wife garden before we were born. :D

I have two varieties that get a partial leaf wilt/collapse every year. I think my rain barrel drains too near the crowns, or my soaker hoses have been sliced. The soil there probably stays too damp so some sort of fungus/rot sets in? The major part of both plants look healthy.

Dancing in the Rain

Sharp-eyed Dr. Dave noticed this in my garden on Sunday, misting on Dancing in the Rain. Four leaves look like this, the rest are white centers. Registration says "centers develop light green frosting in the heat". I didn't know that.
