Re: What is it??

I don't have 'Ripple Effect,' but that looks like every photo I've ever seen of it. That was my first guess, too.

I do have 'Pineapple Upside Down Cake,' and I don't think that's it.

Re: Plant spacing

I walk around and look at the changes every day, too, Noreaster. Since this bed is in my front yard, I'm certain my neighbors think I'm the Weird Plant Lady who walks around talking to her garden every morning, and then sits on her garden swing and talks to it again every afternoon. Also, the ...

Re: A two year old seedling

The edges are more rippled this year than last, so yes, I'd say they're getting more pronounced. Thanks, Chris! I guess I'll keep it and see what it does. :)

Re: Plant spacing

This was my front bed this morning. My hostas are still unfurling (so sloooow this year), but you can see how I have them spaced. Honestly, when I look at it like this, I want to run out and buy a dozen or so small to medium hostas to cram in all the spaces in between. But it'll look more filled in ...

A two year old seedling

Growing well, but is it special enough to keep around?

Stunning. My garden would love to grow up to be just like yours. It has a very VERY long way to go.

I lost my potted 'Hadspen Blue' to crown rot this year. Yours is absolutely gorgeous, Stefan. That blue color is amazing.

Re: Garden joy in spe

I love that story, Pia! My kids, so far, haven't really gotten into gardening, but I think there might be hope for my daughter (she'll be 16 on Thursday). She took a companion animal elective class in school this year, and the classroom was right next to the school's fantastic greenhouse. She found ...

Re: New Hostas arrived.

My newbs from Chris are...

Clifford's Stingray
Guacamole
Guardian Angel
Lionheart
Niagra Falls
Raspberry Sundae

Small order, but...I'm trying to save up some money for my son's high school graduation, as well as his heading off to college in the fall. Priorities suck. ;)

Re: Plant spacing

Gorgeous gardens, boops and Stefan! I'm probably doing the spacing thing all wrong. I started out allowing for mature size, but then found I was too impatient to deal with the empty space as the hosta matured. While I don't thoroughly crowd my hostas, I do tend to plant smaller varieties around the ...

Re: One a day - Hosta 'Leatherneck'

That really is handsome. I'd want one, myself, except that I sort of went nuts over the past couple of years with the blue or glaucous green rippled hostas. Some day, I'll have more beds, and more room to get some blue or green ripply lovelies and space them out a bit. ;)

Re: New Hostas arrived.

Got my shipment this week, too. I made them a brand new bed, and so far they seem quite happy. They're all great, healthy, and with root systems that don't stop...as usual. :D

Thanks, Chris. And thanks for my gift plant, 'Raspberry Sundae'!

Gorgeous!

Your 'Great Escape' is a beauty. Does it get bluish misting in the margins with heat or stress the way 'Blue Ivory' does?

Re: Plain hosta seedlings

As far as I can tell, the couple of streaked seedlings I planted out a couple of years ago are coming up green this year. They're still emerging/unfurling, though, so I guess time will tell. They were dramatically streaked over the past couple of years in the early stages, so this is different. I ha...

Re: Gift hosta with no ID

I think it's the lighting, which was terrible in that shot. And I also think that Chris is probably right. I scrounged around the 'Net looking for pictures of fortunei 'Albopicta', and this definitely looks like one with spring coloring. I guess time will tell. If it greens up as the season progress...

Re: Plain hosta seedlings

I've had seedlings pop up in the oddest places. The seeds must have been transported by...birds? Bugs? I don't know. But they sometimes show up far away from any probable hosta parent plant. And I've had a few (I think from the 'undulata albomarginata' that came with my house) turn up with white mar...

Re: Garden Appreciation!

Ed, I got my box from Chris today, too. It was a lovely little bunch of hostas, with a 'Raspberry Sundae' surprise added in. :D I spent the day scrounging cardboard from Walmart, then hauling some heavy bags of compost and topsoil to create another bed for the new hostas, and a few that are in pots ...
