What a wonderful treat to visit your gardens! I have to admit, I probably stayed a little longer than I thought I would...but you have such great "stuff" there! Thanks for the invite! It was interesting that most of your butterflies are like those I find here...but the coloring of your BIRDS surpris...

Love your pics! I caught 2 in my feeders the other morning. I tapped on the bathroom window...then had to laugh at the broad jumps each one took to push themselves away from the feeders. I wonder what my neighbor thought about ME standing inside at the window with my elbow on the sill...waving my ha...

I have one of these fellas visiting my suet this year too for the first time! He's so similiar to our summertime flickers in size and shape, he tricked me the first time I spotted 'im! He's been a regular..along with some downy and hairy woodpeckers, and doesn't seem to mind me peering out the windo...

Hmmm....one of my favorite ferns! I'd at least give it a fightin' chance by carefully trimming back the long fronds that are attached to the round discs at the base. Water 'im good, and see if there is still any life left. I left 2 of my gigantic Christmas cacti out one year in the frosty temps...th...

AHA! She's picked the perfect thing that is getting popular in the Floral Industry! Foliage! Hosta leaves do great in arrangements...they last well in both Oasis and water if "hardened up" before using. (Just need to be cut and put into deep warm water the day before using!) One new trend that I'm s...

Oh Karma! You're wetting my appetite for MORE daturas next year! Last summer I grew those lovely triple lavender...and forgot to gather seed in the fall. This Spring...I was excited to find 3 tiny seedlings in the same area! Those plants are as tall as me now...and the blossoms have been spectacular...

Poinsettia and Christmas Cactus info......
YUP! It's time to trick them into thinking the days are SHORT and the nights are LONG!! We'll start putting black cloths over our 2,000 poinsettias in the school greenhouses on Monday. This should be started on the Fall Equinox. It takes about four weeks of covering them from late afternoon to late ...

Wanna know my secret?!? :o On some of those first warm spring nights when the frogs start their beautiful chorus...if I see a toad in the road...I carefully pull over and go back and grab 'im!! Too many get splattered...I feel I'm saving their little lives...and my gardens become good homes to them!...

WOW!! To "hail" with it.......
:o Did we ever get hit last night! Golfball sized hail preceded a huge storm in our SE Michigan corner! (Chris, Brian...you O.K.??) Leaves are covering the lawn...flowers stripped and torn laying down in all the gardens... :( I wonder what the farmers pumpkins will end up looking like in Oct.! My ho...

Hmmm....if you google "fire ants" and look at the images...there are quite a few pics that look just like your little fella! Michigan still won't admit we have cougars/panthers yet either...but we do! When I was a youngin'...I remember our cat brought up a chipmunk that looked different. Dad looked ...
