They are such beautiful birds. I have only seen a couple in person. We don't seem to have many here, although we do have a lot of woodpeckers coming to the feeders.
Thanks for posting the picture.

Re: Freeky Day!
My husband's grandmother lived in Tyler, TX and always kept cats. She did not have air conditioning and the porcelain tub was the coolest spot in the whole house. All the cats slept in the tub and one of them liked to sleep with its' head over the drain. When it purred, the hollow pipe magnified the...

Re: Iron Phosphate Slug Baits - Warning!
Could you use diatomaceous earth? I just sprinkle it on the ground close to the base of the plant and have little problem with the slugs. The down side is that you have to reapply after a couple rains, but it is inexpensive and not difficult to apply. The up side is that I have never had any problem...

They are beautiful and such a good way to use the inherited buttons. And I like to do Christmas crafts after Christmas. It makes the holiday last just a bit longer.

Re: Bah humbug
Always suspected there was an unspoken animosity between cats and tree skirts. Thanks for confirming it. We finally gave up after several were shredded and hauled off by several cats over the years. Eventually, we just gave up and no longer put the skirt on. It is unsightly, but not so stressful on ...

Re: Black Squirrel!!!
Kas, I didn't see your question about why they imported black squirrels to KSU. I don't know why they did it. A groundskeeper imported several pairs from Ontario in the 1960s. I think it was done illegally. The black squirrels pretty much drove the other squirrels out and did not confine themselves ...

Re: Willie & Anabelle
They are both so photogenic! Was Willie teasing the cat by getting in the box? Our cats love boxes and bags and get really annoyed when the dogs take them over. Of course, around here, the cat is queen. She weighs 17 lbs and each of the dogs weighs about 5, so what Anne Marie wants, Anne Marie takes...

Re: 60 pounds lost and counting
Congratulations, Chris. You are an inspiration for those of us who struggle with the weight thing. And it is nice that you are doing it by being careful with both the quantity and quality of what you eat. Keep up the good work and good luck with the 2010 goal.

Re: Wild and Lovely Purse.
What a fun purse. Your daughter in law is a lucky gal to have you make this for her. Looks like it would carry a lot of stuff and the way the bottom is, it won't be falling over spilling out the contents. Nice design and nice fabric. Thanks for sharing. I love to see what crafts others are doing. Glo

Re: Pot Pie Recipe?
I use leftover chicken, beef or turkey. I make 3 cups of medium white sauce and add any leftover gravy to it. My kids like mushrooms, so I add some of those or frozen mixed veges. I always add a bit of pimento, too. You can make the filling as sloppy or thick as suits you. We like it sloppy. I put i...

He is poetry in motion. What focus. I would like to know what makes the lure move. Is it a remote control device? Anyway, good luck with this. Dutch seems to be in his element chasing the lure.

Re: Under the Maple
We have a large sugar maple in our front yard and have the same problem. We put a real thick layer of mulch (finely shredded tree bark) around the base of the tree to about 10 feet from the trunk and have had no problems so far. It forms a dense mat. We do water our trees very deeply at least twice ...

We have tons of black squirrels here. They were imported to Kent State University from Canada years ago and have increased their range considerably.

Re: Raccoon robbery?
A neighbor had pet dishes taken as well as margarita glasses taken off the deck, presumably by the raccoons. One of the glasses was found by the fence but none of the other stuff was found in the yard but they did not look in the woods. The folks who lived there earlier used to feed the raccoons Ore...
