I agree. The rippled edges make it one of the most attractive hostas. The spring color is just a beautiful bonus.
Now if I can just get some attractive features around it...

Re: H. 'War Paint' again
I think it has been about 5 years, but the years are going by much differently now than they did 20 years ago hard to say for sure-and I don't have my list where I can find it. It was an ok size about 3 years ago in a fair amount of shade. We had the mother of all ice storms in Dec '08 and I ...

Re: Chartreuse and purple
Just planted a tall limbed-up Sand Cherry along with 3 Mellow Yellow Spireas around it where I lost a large purple smoke bush in the '08 ice storm. I think that Chartreuse and purple can't be beat! The combos above are just wonderful. Tigger, I laughed about your using color as exclamation points. I...

I have had this hosta for about 4 years. This is the 2nd year it has been in full sun due to the ongoing problems with the 2008 ice storm. :???: Registry - http://www.hostaregistrar.org/detail.php?id=6908&Variety=War%20Paint MyHostas - http://myhostas.be/db/hostas/War+Paint Hosta Library - http://ww...

H. 'Sagae' Let's try again
1st-Chris, thanks for your help.
2nd-I am so excited that this baby has grown up that I just have to show her off in her best light-so to speak.
Thanks for the indulgence. (I've got several more I would like to share )

Let's give this one a try. Some of my hosta are just glorious this year and I want to show them. I hope I don't bore you with too many. As I have just been lurking for some time I appreciate the indulgence. imp Doggone it. Now I think they are too little to see well. I'll try again later. :bl...

Hopefully I will be able to post this as I am having difficulty in sizing. Again ~sigh-

Re: HAIL!
L&T,I am sorry to hear of your hail damage. I have had the same thing happen and the hostas were just fine the next year (I may have imagined it, but I think they were larger and healthier the next year!). In fact, here in Oklahoma don't we get a bit of damage most every year though it sounds like y...

Re: Need some help
Ginger, I have a friend who plants angelonia in a pot with many other plants. It works great. Apparently it grows as large as is possible. My garden had all the room in the world. Shouldn't be a problem with hanging baskets.
Did I mention that I really like this plant?

Re: Need some help
Ginger, I saw some of these at the speciality garden centers for about $7 for a 4" container last year in around the end of April! Eek. Too rich for my blood. Then I saw them in May (mid to late) at Lowes for really cheap. I planted 3 of the dark purple ones in a bed in full sun. The three made a cl...

Re: Opinion on H. 'Aristocrat'
I have kept Aristocrat in a pot for years. It is such an elegant hosta, IMHO and one of my favorites. I don't have any trouble with it except its leaves get dirtier than most.
Darn I thought I had a photo.

Chris, I was amazed at the beautiful pink flowers from the one I got from you last spring. Huge flowers-at least a foot across. I really like this one.

Re: DRIP SYSTEMS:
Steve, I am interested in an answer to your post. I have an unused zone and I have thought how nice it would be to have a mister through that area. Drip would be nice too.
Don't you envy those up north that get summer rain? And cool temps? To be 100 degrees here this next week.

Re: Fine Gardening Magazine
I don't know why I look at those mags anyway. It makes me feel so inadequate!
The hosta there just doesn't look right to me. Maybe just a large pot-a really large pot.

Has anyone seen the latest FG mag with the hosta out front? That one is a monster. Anyone have ideas what it is? I can't help but think the pic has been photoshopped. It just doesn't look right. In back of it is a large rose bush. The bench by the hosta is kinda dawarfed by it. What do you think? Imp

Re: Oklahoma Hosta
Ginger, those look just lovely. They seem to be very happy in their pots. I'm thinking that may be the only sensible way to grow hosta in Oklahoma. I moved Korean Snow to a pot this year. It had been in one of the beds for several years and I have never seen it without frost damage! I have been wond...

Re: Not Again !
will they just come on or do I need to pull the others off? It would be a big job, but I can do it if necessary for summer beauty. The Bloodgood was planted just before my daughter was born and I hoped it would show off its glorious self for her 18 birthday in July. Interestingly, only half of it wa...
