Re: Introducing Gus!

Congrats on the new addition to your family. He is just adorable. What an expressive face he has. And isn't it nice to have that housebreaking thing already done.
Enjoy!

Re: General question about our online catalog

I love the idea. For those of us who live some distance, but would like to visit, it makes sense to know ahead of time what other items are available at the nursery only. That way, we could plan for space in the car and garden beds, plan our budget and could let you know ahead of time what we would ...

Heirloom tomato

My son was give a couple tomatoes and told they were Russian heirloom. They are real big, between 3/4 and 1 pound each, and shaped like a human heart. They are absolutely delicious. I looked them up and found they are probably Anna Russian Heirloom variety. Has anyone grown them? Any tips? Anyone ca...

Not a big fan of goat cheese here. My first thought was could I use all mozzarella instead and when I went back and read your comments, you had done just that. Looks yummy and I will try it soon.

Re: roses against a house??

It has been my experience that most roses get fungus at some time or another, but there are some things you can do to minimize the damage. Water the soil below the plant, not the plant itself. Plant the rose in such a way that it gets good air circulation around it. Pick up any plant litter, includin...

Re: roses against a house??

Congrats on finding a climber that you like. I would put up a very sturdy trellis made of a material that requires no maintenance. Once the rose gets going, unless you are going to pull it over to winter it on the ground, trellis maintenance is a real pain to do. Then place the trellis at least 6 in...

From your description, I can pretty imagine your little Zeke and his adventure. Is he giving you the "stink eye"? That is what mine do when I have displeased them.

Re: What's on your fall worklist still?

We have the usual Fall cleanup to do and I plan to put in a bunch of bulbs for Spring color. My big project will be to drop 6 semi dwarf apple trees that I planted 30 years ago. :( I love those trees but they have grown to standard tree size (30' plus) despite having them professionally pruned and t...

Hogweed is indigenous to central Asia. China is part of central Asia. Maybe it makes the neighbors feel at home.

Here is an article about Giant Hogweed, what it can do. After reading about it, I am glad I have not seen it here. http://www.michigan.gov/mda/0,1607,7-125-1568_2390_34686---,00.html Click on the brochure link at the bottom of the article to read more. Re: Bird ID?

As an addendum to my above post. My little dogs hate squirrels and frequently tree them in the locust trees behind the house. This morning, a hapless black squirrel got trapped in the tree and the darned house wren started dive bombing and pecking the squirrel all the while chattering in a clearly a...

Those are fantastic and so perfect for the holiday. I like the loopy detail in the blue part of the larger basket. You are so talented and make the most beautiful baskets. I hope you will post some more pictures of your baskets.

Diggity-Dog Groundhogs

I am sitting here, hot, sweating, and tired. Once again, a miserable groundhog has dug under our chain link fence and one of our chihuahuas has escaped through the hole. We spent 15 minutes trying to recover the dog. Once he is out, he forgets all his training and just runs and runs and refuses to c...

Re: DEER

Do be careful. I have a friend who rode his bike to work every day. The bike path was through woods and meadows and he came across a lot of wildlife on his travels. One day, a buck stopped in the path and Bob stopped to look at him. The buck charged Bob. The only thing he could think of is the buck ...
