Re: My favorite container of 09

That is very pretty! Maybe I should try that combination between my hydrangeas next year. I only have shade along the north side of the house by the garage so that's where I planted my three hydrangeas.

Re: Banana Pepper in Container?

I grew peppers in pots last year, and they did really well. I did have to water more as Chris said once it got hot, but I got lots of peppers. I also grew a Tobasco pepper plant in a pot for decorative purposes. I loved the color phases of the peppers. If you decide to grow a Tobasco be sure to wea...

Re: Anyone have blue star creeper?

I don't know if anyone is still reading this thread, but I finished planting that flowerbed and I have lots of plants left. I don't know what I'll do with them. Maybe I should extend the bed further out from the patio. It took me a long time to do what I've already done, so I'm not sure I want to do...

Re: My Coneflowers Reseeded

About 95% of the time the seedlings will be purple or pale pink, or at least that's what they've been doing here, but they all will carry over the fragrant genes. Some of mine have been huge flowers, too. Here is one with a flower larger than my hand. I also have a couple orange seedlings here that...

Re: 'Anna Louisa' is depressed.

Oh, maybe they do use sterile seeds. The goldfinches are probably finding non-sterile seeds as well. Karma, do you think I can get a noise maker up high enough to scare them?

Re: Anyone have blue star creeper?

I finally got all the sod out along one side of the patio. That is where they dumped their chunks of cement when I wasn't looking, so I had to get all that out, too. My knee that I had surgery on is so sore that I haven't completed my planting.

My Coneflowers Reseeded

I found seedlings of Sunrise coneflowers in my flower bed so I gave one to my daughter. She's getting some fringe benefits for the help she gives us.

I need to go check another bed to see if there are seedlings of other varieties.

How depressing!

We asked for an estimate on a sprinkler system and learned that we can't have one. The well is inadequate and the pipe is only one and a half inches. We can never afford another well so that dream is squashed. :bawl:

DUH!

I thought Ebb Tide was dead, but it now has leaves on it. My roses trick me every time! So we will keep spraying with Liquid Fence and hope the deer don't get it.

Re: Banana Pepper in Container?

Ref: Keeping them cool...I thought peppers liked to be hotter than most plants (temperature wise that is.) They don't like temperatures below 50 degrees at night. Here's additional info I found online: 1. Q. Why do my pepper plants often bloom but fail to set fruit? A. Peppers, like tomatoes, are s...

Re: My Coral Bells Are Dead

Sorry to hear it. I've been disappointed in them, as they were supposed to be companions to the hostas, in the shade. But, in the shade, most of the burgundies and purples turn green. And they won't tolerate dry shade, which is a big problem under my trees, although the hostas are fine once establi...

Re: Banana Pepper in Container?

Thanks, Chris! Thank you for the tip about pinching. I didn't know that. Last year my peppers in the garden didn't do anything at all...they just stayed as little plants with no peppers. However, I have a never-give-up attitude about gardening. BUT...how do you keep them cool?

'Anna Louisa' is depressed.

My clematis Anna Louisa is in bloom, but the bed looks absolutely horrible. The neighbor feeds the goldfinches, then they sit on top of my arbor and drop thistle seeds. I sprayed with Weed B Gone but more thistles always appear while the others are dying.

TOO LATE!!!!

I couldn't find my Liquid Fence and the deer ate all the leaves on all my roses. Yesterday DH said he sprayed them but it doesn't look like it. I'm going to ask him to spray again. But I don't know what good it will do without any leaves on them.
