Re: Hosta of the Day 'So Sweet' - Post Your Pics

Would like to add some scape/bract pictures of 'So Sweet.' They stayed nice even after the flowering was done and there were no pods. Every time I've walked by them they are still so sweet. These pictures taken today, Oct. 8.

I 'like' it. Never heard of it but it has a catchy name.

Re: Seed exchange question

Yes, these are the first I ever grew and I put some S. Elegans seeds on potting soil in the top half of an egg carton, inside a bread bag, on my laundry room window. 1000's of seedlings came up. Half were lost to damping off before I got them spread out in more containers. It was a great experiment ...

Re: Seed exchange question

I love growing seeds just for the differences they bring. And some are quite like their pod parent, sometimes a little better, sometimes not as good. And sometimes, way different. Here's a group of "S. Elegans" seedlings. One very yellow and one with very floppy, rumpled leaves. The others just green.

I made one in '96 or '97, with peat, perlite and concrete. It's still holding together.

Re: Whte seed pods - are the seeds viable?

These are the white ones in my garden: Whirlwind and Thunderbolt. I'm hoping that since there is a bit of color on Whirlwind, it will have some viable seed.

Re: Stained Glass

'Stained Glass' is new for me this year and when I first saw it, I was unimpressed, but it was a gift. It looked like 'Emerald Tiara,' it was that small. But now 3 months later, it is really nice and has doubled in size.

Re: Hosta of the day -'Whirlwind' - post your pics

So you're saying, Chris, that if they are not 'greened' up by August like 'F. Albopicta,' then they aren't a true 'Whirlwind?'
As you can see, mine is still fairly white in September! I must have an impostor!

Re: Daily Hosta #1 - 'Dixie Chickadee' - Add your pics

I'm new here on Hallson Gardens forum, but a friend of Linda P's. Here is my 'Dixie Chickadee' when it came last June. I thought it was the cutest thing I'd seen. It's in a 8 oz glass of water.
