Re: Shade....to much?

60 foot raised bed might keep the deer out
Not my deer. I think they would stand on top of each other to get to the hostas.

I plant the blues and the very dark hostas in the deep shade.

Re: Some new introductions from Heucheradream

I love them Rosemarie but I have refused to invest to much money in them until they start to develop ones that survive my climate. They are too expensive for short lived perennials. I have been buying them when I see them on sale cheap to experiment to see what will survive. I only have about 12 so ...

Re: So many new hostas on the market...

I buy hostas for their look, not their name. If a hosta looks very similar to one (or ones) I already own, I don't buy it. Ditto.... When I started buying hostas I did not have a lot of land a single lot suburban size garden area. I have 4 acres of land now and I still only want a good garden hosta...

Re: Gardenias

I would not touch it now. I would shape it up this summer when it will have more time to recover when the weather is perfect.

I would see how it grows this summer and shape it then.

Re: African Violets - any fanciers here?

Alexa, how are your AVs doing?

I admit to buying many at the grocery store only to kill them. I have never had any that lived. I do the same thing with the grocery store Orchids. I finally have one grocery store orchid that I have kept alive for a year. I might try AVs again.

Re: Parasites

I recently moved and had never had a problem. I moved my Iris from my old house and purchased some. This Spring I noticed some looking wet and because I did not have any experience with this problem I was late catching the problem. I dug them up and the big ugly worms were there. I pulled them...

Is that the Iochroma the tall tree to the left? I would love to see a bigger pic of the reverse variegated. It looks like it is really a nice plant.

Re: Before and After

Exctly the same, just we call them windows with a door openng  OK Pia that sounds right. The window with a door is here because it is a old house. I had to buy a energy efficient winter storm window to cover it for our severe winters because it has lead glass so I could not replace the door wi...

Re: Before and After

Thy, rosemarie thank you. Thy, it a door with side windows not uncommon for the type of house in my area. Is this the same type of door/windows in Denmark. Here is a pic when they were refinishing the living room floors with the doors open. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v107/marquest/HOUSE/BEFOR...

Re: Before and After

Thanks Chris. I forgot to say 90% of the Hostas are from Hallson the 10% are from trades. :D

I will post as I redo the gardens. I am digging as many plants from the old house. Most people do not want as many plants as I had at the old property.

Re: When you tell your kids to do mistakes

I was thinking wrong pot. I have done that. Because I love pots I have killed many plants using any type of metal. My trick is styrofoam If I find a metal pot that I love I always line it with styrofoam. They get too hot when it is hot and too cold when it is cold. Almost anything I order has styro ...

Before and After

I brought a old house last year the house sits on 4 acres of mature trees and weeds and lots and lots of grass. There was an area outside the morning room door that sits across from the patio. Looking at the area there was absolutely no plants and very few weeds. But it is very shady. I dug up all m...
