My dad mowed the hosta, the old green ones, back to the ground for 20yrs. They came back bigger and prettier every year. He also stuck a shovel down into the clumps every spring and chopped off the over hang that was encroaching onto the walkway. He would throw these around Maple trees and throw soi...

Ripe pods will start to crack and open up, usually after a few cool nights after they are ripe. If you pick them off too early, your germination rate will go down. I have picked them off, put them into envelopes in the house and they ripen and split on their own. I think they are better if left to d...

All the purchases I brought home went into a new bed that gets a lot of sun. The color on the all the plants changed, but I expected that. I get better growth in more sun, but I thought this was a better spot than in my more shady beds. The placement may have something to do with the growth mine put...

I have had the same thing happening on the plants I bought from venders at the convention. I thought it was normal for them to put up a second growth of leaves in late summer. Now that you mention it, not many of my established plants have sent up any new leaves like these newly planted purchases ha...

Looks just like mine, also just getting ready to bloom. You will know for sure if the flower is huge, and fragrant. Mine is also in almost full sun. It does fine, but I do water it regularly, its right next to the tomatoe pots, lol.

I agree with the adding of substance Rod, sure would have helped my babies out. I got a yellow at the convention named H. Jaz, thick as leather! Another one that gave nice substance and interesting seedlings a couple years back was H. El Nino. I wanted to use El Nino this year for pollen, but the st...

Great babies Rod! I wish I knew how you get your babies to grow. Mine still look to be almost the same as when I brought them up from the basement. One thing I think I learned, finally this year is to keep them in pots. The slugs ate up almost all the really nice babies I put into the ground. I thin...

It is still got a little tinge of red on the tips, but new leaves are all green. It is in the ground, and was eaten up pretty well by the slug early on. I put down an application of deadline, and that along with the dry weather has kept the slugs at bay. I think, if the red ever appears again, it wi...

Works here for me. No fuss, no Muss. Try that pod parent pollen around the outside, and the EL on the tip, bet it will work for you. Is what you are using as a pod parent setting seed using other pollen? Could also be the humidity, try it on a cooler, drier day maybe.

Roxanne, what do you think about 'Midnight Storm"? I got that one in In. after talking at length about it to Solberg. He sold me on it, and I really like it, what are your thoughts, or anyone else here who might have gotten it. It reminds me of something... and I can't figure it out. And the Emerald...

This is a multiple eyed seedling right? Now you sep. it up and get one of each of the varigations you are showing in the third pic? Very cool, would be even cooler if it keeps doing that on each division
