That is one of the key traits my friend Terri Jones looks for in her seedlings before registration! Recovery from divisibility.

Hey there, Ed... Guess I am the reason Mort sulked--- thanks for sharing him... the good news is that the piece you sent me has put up some very nice scapes, and I am planning some toothy crosses!

Re: Secret Trade Received!! 2010
Happy to hear you liked them, gardengirl13! The secret trades are great fun, and I love it when I have a few from my person's wish-list. I think the last one was 'Crepe Soul'; I didn't notice the food theme! I also enjoy seeing the newspapers from other areas of the country.

He chose three hostas, all of which are new to me: CANDY DISH--- this one is so piecrusted it looked like ornamental kale! I have no...

Re: Hemerocallis dumortierri has scapes
Ed, did it show the brown-maroon markings on the backs of the buds and flowers? Mine used to, and didn't this year for the first time.
Love this one anyway, don't even care how it blooms (sometimes) down in the foliage, has no branching and a very low bud count!

Judy, if you are using Priority Mail from the Post Office, they will ask if you want Delivery Confirmation. That's what you need, then send the number to Mike (steg) by PM.

It is awesome in real, to see their handwriting, and their dreams taking shape! I'd love to see that garden. I tried mightily to trace the family (the genealogist in me!) but no success.

How to Landscape Your Grounds I enjoy collecting old gardening books. A recent acquisition, How to Landscape Your Grounds, by Loyal R. Johnson, held a surprise: marginal notes which told of a love story expressed in plans for a couple’s new property. This book was published in 1941 by A.T. De La Mar...

Have you dug any up to see if there is something going on under the soil line?
I've not had that problem yet, only the one where an 'okay' hosta gets progressively worse with each passing year, like the notorious 'Fire and Ice' and 'Tattoo' and 'Cherry Berry.'

Re: what's with "Tatoo"
Hmm, now I feel worse. Tattoo is one to try two or three times, then give up on as it always dies. BUT, I have Little Sunspot, and it grows easily and well. Soil here is naturally acidic, although there are times of dryness and drought; watering only does so much in this sandy soil, even amended it ...

Re: Obtaining streakers
No, it's not. Additionally, you won't be using the same cutting-edge parents as many other people, so I'm guessing your seedlings won't be look-alikes as well. Work with what you have. When you see something that you know is perfect for getting the genes in your pool that you really need, you will p...

Beautiful gardens! Thank you for sharing photos--- I feel like I've been there!
Plus what everyone else said, I love the white birch trunks lighting up the darker areas.

Re: Hallson's Spring Hosta Trade 2010
That is an excellent tutorial about how to ship hostas. BUT, there is one item I do differently: NO shredded newspaper--- After the hosta is prepared for shipping, I roll it up in a double sheet of newspaper. This will then fit neatly into the Priority Mail Box, bending ends of the newspaper roll if...

Re: Propagating/dividing Patent Plants?
I'm with thy--- the hybridizer gets his profits in the first round of sales. And of course there are those who will always prefer o/s (original source) plants. And are tc plants really identical to the originals in any event? Another debate. It seems a far cry from dividing a (patented) hosta and sh...
