Vegetable garden today
We have picked a couple Early Girl tomatoes & lettuce so far. I have a great crop of sweet peppers this year. Some are fist sized, but have not turned yet. Favs are Red Beauty and Mandarin. Kohlrabi are golf ball sized, cukes are about 3", tiny beans about 1". We should really be harvesting a lot in...

Re: Secret Trade Received!
Hosta12, I am so glad you like them. It is lots of fun trying to find what you would think is the best fit for the other person's garden and knowing that I was able to share something that I have nutured and cared for. It's like a little glimpse of me. I went back and forth whether to include that b...

Re: Secret Trade Received!
Whew Alexa,,,,, boy was I confused :hmm: :hmm: Steg, YES! It did go on from the main PO today to my house. I was driving home and telling myself that when I opened the mailbox there probably would NOT be a note about a package. Afterall, we have until Friday to send and even if it was sent this week...

Awww, I am so sorry to hear this. I have been watching for a post about Wilma, wanting to know and NOT wanting to know. I agree with Ginger that it is so difficult when you cannot explain. Your heart and your mind will eventually come together. In the meantime, be assured that people here know, Wilm...

Re: Show me . . .
Thanks, Steg. Sorry the wording did not come out very clear, but everyone can see the basic idea. The green splotches are maple trees I have to work around. The scale is not perfect, but as good as I need. Off to the side are plants that either died in this spot or were moved because they were very ...

Re: *Closed Names Sent out* Hallson's Spring Hosta Trade 2009
Look at these packages flying out so fast. My friend would say "Good onya". I caught a stupid cold and it has slowed me a little, but I sure have enjoyed making a list & checking it twice to find the best matches. I was sure those 2 boxes were for me ....  Let's see, I'm north of t...

Re: Waiting Patiently
I only have 3 sets of dahlias, so I am no expert, but..
I think that looks just fine. They are not that bushy and you will have to dig them in the Fall.

Re: Waiting Patiently
At least they are all in pots and will grow just fine.
One time I left some bulbs in a paper bags and they dried up to nothing.
Looks somewhat like my hostas in pots in the drive.

Re: Hallson's Spring Hosta Trade 2009
I hope FreakyCola gets in, she made a special post to ask about the trade. by FreakyCola on May 07, 2009 11:53 pm I missed secret trades many times over the past few years due to computor malfunction or just poor timing so I popped on today when dear sonny boy left. Did I miss it again? I can't find...

Re: Hallson's Spring Hosta Trade 2009
I just can't resist either, even though I have 10 or so in pots that need planted.
My excuse is that time in the pots builds good roots.
I'll send PM.
Thanks for doing this,
Pan

Re: dividing heuchera
Mr Toad,
I have divided mine at various times in the Spring and Summer with good luck. I don't see any reason to wait.
Do you happen to have Key Lime Pie? I probably could split mine.
BTW, I like your Avatar. Did you make those??

Re: New to forum
Welcome, Tina, You can go to the Hosta Library http://www.hostalibrary.org/ You could post pictures here. People love to guess at what they are. Do you have anywhere that you have written down the names or saved the labels or receipts, but just did not label the hostas? That helps. Good luck. Others...

Newtohosta, thanks. He really surprises me sometimes, and I think he is not paying attention.
Woodthrush, it came in a box as big as a suitcase. It is a gorgeous book and it won't be seeing the garden dirt.

Got my signed copy of Hostapedia - Yipeee!!!
My DH bought it for me as a complete surprise!
When he ordered it I had not even heard of it.
I am probably too frugal to buy it, but that is why he gets me some
of the gifts he does.
Oh, it is a cold and dreary afternoon and evening and perfect
for this wonderful book.

Re: Rhubarb
Rhubarb does like sun. I always given them some cow manure when I first see signs of growth in the Spring.
Of course, I have to buy the bagged kind, since I don't have the real thing.

Re: Slug Control
Mine got Molson Ice (my fav). ((don't tell DH the critters got the good stuff))
All was fine and many slugs drank too much and met their demise.
UNTIL ,,,,,, it began....
In the morning all the plastic containers were strewn all over the yard
and we had some tipsy raccoons.

The main flock (or rafter) has grown to ove 30 in the last few years. I guess at this time they break up into smaller harems  This guy sure looks of proud of his selection or of who selected him. There were 10 hens, but some are not seen in the pic. Oh, man, can these guys be noisey in the morn...

Chris, thanks that helped. I was not clicking the "Add" button in the right sequence. It worked once, so hopefully I can remember for next time. lol
