Re: Hosta Identification help
It's got me stumped, too. You could try posting it to the "American Hosta Society" facebook group page. Add in anything else you know about the plant: leaf size, where it might have come from, how long it has been in that place, etc. Or try working your way through this very long list of white-backe...

Re: Getting ready to divide another clump of Olive Branch
I think we got our Olive Branch from you. Still love it. (Stephen especially is a fan, and would probably put it in his top 20.) It's in the same bed with your Heart's Delight, which is growing great. Need to get a pic to the Hosta Library on that one, which is showing someone else's unregistered pl...

Jeff said it will be in his catalog next year. Looks like it will be a mid-sized brother between Little Hobber and Abiqua Drinking Gourd.

I think it was Don Rawson who just split up a big clump and sold off individual eyes via Facebook. Each brought well over $100, I think.

Hi, Woody! June has been a hosta-crazy month for us, with the convention (in Indianapolis) at the beginning and First Look (in New England) last weekend. Plus our team is gearing up to host next year's national convention in Philadelphia. You should come!

Wow. I didn't know this but do like "our" 'Oshima Silk'. This is a worse mess than Geisha/Ani Machi.

Re: Harbor Lane Gardens - martagons in bloom!
I keep wondering why neither we nor any of our local friends grow these. So pretty! Is it our summer heat, or the problem with deer? (We have a devil of a time getting our native ally of these, Lilium superbum, to get its bloom past the searching mouths of Odocoileus virginianus.)

Well, _____g could always be "seedling" (of a streaked plant)! Not much help.

Re: Do these plants look infected?
I'm not seeing any problems. Your last plant seems to be a streaker that is settling out in various variegation patterns. What was it supposed to be?

Re: Is this the Virus?
So much of this kind of damage (a sort of plant edema) due to strange weather this spring. The leaves sucked up a lot of water and then the cells burst before the cell walls had strengthened sufficiently. The kind of damage that the edges of Frances Williams show in most years.

Thanks, Jim (and Sheila). I didn't know the chollo bloom in such a range of colors. We keep a few cacti in our bathroom window, and they bloom reliably around Easter. One little bun-sized guy had 7 blooms at once one day.

Re: Van Wade passed away
Such a nice man. We made it to the nursery only twice, but of course saw him at conventions, where he was always so generous with plants. I had a feeling last year that it might be the last time I saw him. And I could still kick myself for not bidding higher on His 'Chief Crazy Horse'.

Re: Is Stained Glass early to emerge?
I wouldn't say it's early. Case in point last year when we had a late hard freeze: plantaginea and its variants all suffered but Stained Glass and Fragrant Bouquet were fine here.

Re: Newbee in Texas - needs advice
Hello, Texas. Here's a must-read listicle by Tony Avent on hostas for hot climates: https://www.plantdelights.com/blogs/articles/hostas-for-warm-climates . It's a bit old, but you can extend it with any of the newer fragrant cultivars (mostly coming out of the Fragrant Bouquet/Guacamole line). Sadly...
