Re: This year's babies
That's a nice goal - I really enjoy interesting hosta flowers and have selected a couple plants of my own only because of the nice flowers. I wonder if that red edge is only on the new growth and will disappear later in the season. Will be worth watching. Have you considered using Tickled Pink in yo...

Re: Guacamole vs...
I wouldn't say that Guacamole has more color than Holy Mole or Avocado though I have noticed that newer clones of Guacamole seem to have been selected with a slightly lighter center. Holy Mole and Avocado are wide margined versions of Guacamole that to me are a big improvement. The only difference b...

Thank you Karma! Happy new year to you too This could be a great new year for Hallson Gardens as we hopefully transition to new ownership and help to keep the gardens alive for many years to come.

Re: Chris - Winter cleanup?
Hi, There are a few things to consider when cleaning up - don't do it too early as you could be passing diseases among the hostas, so definitely do it some time after you have had a complete killing frost. Whether that is in the spring or fall is up to you I think, and your schedule. But also fungus...

Re: Hallson Gardens is for sale - it is time to retire
Thank you :) Yes, we don't want to give it away, but don't want to wait forever either. I think we have it priced about right with room to negotiate. Business pricing is more of a guide and not quite as fixed as a home price might be. When the right person comes along we will both know it. Problem i...

Re: Hallson Gardens is for sale - it is time to retire
Yes, sorry for the sad news. We will still be around here in 2019 as we don't have a buyer yet. We've had several inquiries and one offer came in but was way too low, in fact so low that I don't even think there is room to work with them at all. But we will see what happens - they are a really nice ...

Re: Hallson Gardens is for sale - it is time to retire
The forum will still be here and I will still be running it. It isn't part of the sale which is why I moved it to this domain. I'm going to keep perennialreference.com but will be selling perennialnursery.com with the business. That way I will still be a part of things here with the forum. :) We hav...

Re: Hallson Gardens is for sale - it is time to retire
We will still be gardening and I want to take some hostas with me. Just depends on how it all goes. But of course I will still be around to help with plant questions - heck, I'm hoping to have more time for that. Might even have time to do a hosta convention and I'm even thinking I might work for a ...

Hallson Gardens is for sale - it is time to retire
As most of you probably know by now, Brian and I have decided to put our home and nursery up for sale this year. We have been at this for 25 years now, 23 professionally, and have loved every minute of it. We will continue to run the nursery business as usual while looking for a buyer and assure you...

Re: Dark-flowered hostas
Those are great comparisons. Do you have any comparisons to the ventricosa related flowers? Those are some of my darkest purples. Wish I had some of the red flowerings hostas but have never come across those personally.

Re: Hosta of the Day #2 - Lemon Juice
Depends on how long you've had it. If you've had it all summer then it should still work, but waiting until next spring might be better. Sometimes it takes a full year for the concentration to build enough for a positive test.

Be watchful on this one for HVX. Lemon Juice is a Dutch import that has been found with HVX in the past.

Re: Does this look like damage or virus?
It looks a little like nematodes and a little like bacteria. It isn't virus.
If it is bacteria a drench with a fungicide and removing the leaves in the fall would help. I'm leaning towards that but sort of hard to know for certain since some of it looks like nematodes too.

Yes, the login was from a persistent cookie on perennialnursery and cookies are only good on a single domain. Also since this forum is using ssl (secure pages) the cookies have to be different for that too, but otherwise should all be the same
