Best Green and White Hosta

Post by wzbt03 »

This one has become way overproduced. You see it everywhere but it is still my favorite green/white.

They always look good when they're grown well like yours. :P For one reason or another, mine has never come close to looking that good.

My favorite green and white also, the white is pure and bright, from the moment it unfurls. Good emerald green also.

Mine don't look that good either, but this year they are finally old enough to start looking like something. They might have really been nice if not for the freeze. Yours is beautiful!

I have both Patriot and Minuteman and the latter has always done better for me. I don't have a good picture of mine at the moment, but this time of year the leaves on MM are quite cupped, like they are on my Hyacinthinas, they look good like that.

My brain said 'Patriot' even before I opened the thread.

Anyone else remember how expensive it was when it first hit the market? Not quite as bad when I first saw Night Before Christmas the first time at a nursery: $100!

(back in the early TC days, this was, when auction plants could go for many hundreds of dollars)

We all seem to be on a similar wavelength, because when I saw the title of the post I first thought of my Patriot too! It's looking fantastic right now. I also like Fire & Ice, even though mine is slow to grow.

I have it also in my garden, while it is OK, it's not on my list of absolute favourites...

Don't ask me why :hmm:

Thanks for showing your picture of Karin, I just planted mine last year. It is slowing coming up, the cold really slowed it down. I will have to give it some fert and hope it grows up to be like yours.

Your 'Patriot' looks great. I bought one this year too....pretty much just to say that I have one. Its not my fav in the garden...yet. I really enjoy my Francee hosta as they have gotten very large, and am hoping this one becomes a fav as well.

I almost bought a fire and ice yesterday, but the kids were acting up and we left quicker than I intended to. Is the F&I a medium sized hosta? I really like the way that the leaves twist and turn on it.

Cream edge Patriot

Post by jobranch »

I have what I think is Patriot, but the edges are cream colored - not white. What do ya'll think it is? I have tried to read up on Patriot to see if the margins turn cream colored over time and have not seen this. I have four of them and my wife bought them before I started keeping up with names. So, it has to be something available from somewhere like Walmart or Home Depot.
