one auction down, first look to go live Feb 10th

Hey (Hosta) Sports Fans,

Now that the Super Bowl is over we can concentrate on the REAL competition...the battle of the online Hosta auctions!

Don Dean has thrown down the gauntlet with a high bar this year. An astounding total of $7,684.86!
Congratulations to Don and Bob Axmear, who hosted. We can certainly appreciate how much work goes into putting on such a successful event. The plants offered were fabulous and the AHS auction looked better than ever and we think was the best yet!
Thank youz also go out to the generous donors and bidders, without whom there would be no auctions!

These auctions are one of the best ways for a society to build a treasury and a great way for donors and bidders to make a personal contribution to those societies. Donations to the First Look auction have resulted in us sharing more than $15,000.00 with the AHS and the Hosta Library. The proceeds of one of our auctions went entirely to the AHS HVX research project, making First Look, and all who participated, the largest single contributor to that important cause! You guys are GREAT!

First Look this year will be up to our usual antics of showcasing hybridizer's gems and offering unusual and one of a kind specials. If you like rare and unusual hostas, you'll see some here that are so rare, a single plant may only become available every few years or so! If you can find a plant or two that you can donate, let us know and we'll get it in there. Just send us an Email with a pic if you have one and something about the plant. If you have a new plant of your own, this is a great way to get it noticed. Donation and photo Emails can be sent to Bill Meyer at njhosta@comcast.net or Carol Brashear at cbctplant@yahoo.com .

The crazies at FL Headquarters will also be spying on the wild and wacky Chick Wasitis to see what he is up to. It is an election year as well and we wonder if we might see Ran Lydell running again for the Hosta Party...hmmmm? You never know what you might see at the First Look Online Auction!

We will have some gnarly, testy mascot up on Sat. Feb 9, so that you can register and test your bidding, along with a few usual bookkeeping notices. The first hosta Auction items will be going up at the Hosta Library Site on Sunday Feb. 10 and it will run until Sat. Feb. 23, 2008.

If you registered with the recent AHS auction or with the FL auction in the past few years, your registration handle/alias are still good. If you wish to join in the fun you can register anew. Just pick an alias and an Email will be sent to you with a password. If you have an alias and don't remember your password, an Email to cbctplant@yahoo.com or njhosta@comcast.net can get you your password back again.

We look forward to a rousing auction with some fabulous and unique plants that have been donated so far.
Please join us by sending any donations you might have so that we can start off with a bang on Sun. Feb. 10.

Watch for our banner on the home page of the Hosta Library and a link at: http://www.hostalibrary.org/firstlook/
Feel free to pass along to others and other lists.

And ...
Watch out Don Dean...... here we come!!!

All I can say after looking at the slide show is "WOW".
The pictures are amazing. I don't know which one would be my favorite.
Great Job!
