Pic of the Day--Garden tour 20

Post by Hank Zumach »

Hi All--These photos are the last that I'll be showing of the beds in our south lawn. This bed had 4 mature trees in it up until about 10 years ago. At that time we cut down three of the trees, leaving two of them with 6' tall stumps. We then had a chain saw artist (yes, there are such people) convert the stumps to Garden Gnomes. The Gnomes were removed a few years ago and placed in a different part of our garden. I have been using this bed as an area for seedlings. In the first photo you see how it looked for most of 2007. In the fall I decided to remove most of the seedlings and use the bed for sports and select seedlings. The second photo shows how it looked after the change.

Hi--Here is a shot of the Gnomes when they were still hanging out in this bed. Being Gnomes, and somewhat shy, we never know when we might be lucky enough to spot one or both of them but the male has recently been spending a lot of his time seeing that the Friendship Garden plants are protected.

Wow! I didn't know that the gnomes were carved from tree stumps. Wasn't I paying close enough attention before?

Pia, There's still room for you on the bench. :D
