ROHS Garden Tour and Plant Auction - June 29

Post by pepper1 »

The Russ O'Harra Hosta Society will be holding their garden tour and plant auction on Sunday June 29 in the Des Moines area.

We will be touring 4 gardens this year...two in Des Moines, one in Pleasant Hill and one in Altoona. For a preview of the 3rd garden, you can go to www.treehouseadventure.com

Lunch is available...but reservations are needed by the end of this week. ROHS members should have received information in the newsletter by now. For more information on the tour and for lunch information, please visit www.ROHS.org.

For a full weekend of hostas...visit Trudy and the rest of the Pella group on Saturday, then head up to Des Moines on Sunday!

ROHS Summer Mtg

Post by Marlys »

Gary, - Jeeze! I better get my money sent in soon.
I am so bad about getting those sort of things done but put me & Ron down for lunch.
I promise to pay.

I just read my newsletter yesterday after arriving at home from the AHS National Convention.
I was hoping you & Kathy might be in St Louis too.
It was a good time.

Ron & I stopped in Hannibal, MO on our way home to visit the Mark Twain Cave.
Couldn't find food there as the restaurants & shops were on the opposite side of the hwy and the flood waters had closed things down.

We saw several places on our route home where concrete levies covered with plastic & sand bags were being put in place.
Lots of homes under water in Hanibal & Ottumwa, IA.
There was no water over the hwy for us but there is water very near our little hwy just down the hill.

We drove over to the Lake Red Rock dam when we got home as we heard they had to let the damn out.
It was an ugly site with the flood gates wide open & the water ripping & boiling through the gates & the camp grounds below the damn under water and the buildings washing away.
That means all the homes near the river bottom from here to Ottumwa are flooded too.
So sad.
Ironically the US Army Corp of Engineers had planned to lowered the lake starting last fall for dredging, etc.
They had given that up last fall all ready and had decided to postpone it until this fall.

Back to ROHS Summer mtg / Garden Tours / Hosta (plant) Auction!
This is a one chance opportunity to visit great gardens for free (except lunch) & to buy great plants donated by ROHS members at our auction.
It's a good time all the way around.
We love to have members of other hosta groups join us for a great day.
If anyone is interested in attending contact a ROHS member.
See the ROHS website for contact information. And yes, hosta friends coming to Pella on Saturday might really enjoy hanging around and doing Des Moines on Sunday.

Thanx! Gary.

I definitely plan to be there and in Pella the day before. If I'm gonna OD on anything it'll be hostas & hosta people. What a way to go!!

I'll have to see if I have a newsletter here. Haven't looked at the mail yet. I hope I can put my lunch reservation in and pay you that day, Gary. If not - let me know.

Thanks for posting this!! :)

Marlys and Reldon...it's great to hear that you will make it to the ROHS tour. Should be good!

I'll make sure you are on the list for lunch (please let me know if you are wanting the veggie version...otherwise I'll put you down for the pork sandwich).

Make it a pork sandwich for me too, Gary.

I finally had time to track down the newsletter. I know I can get to the 1st & last gardens cuz I've been to both before. I think I may need a personal navigator to get to #2 & #3 with all of the twists & turns though. :o But at least this year it sounds like someone actually drove the route 1st. Which is good. Cuz nobody did last year. LOL

See everybody there!! :D
