Hallson's Hosta get together 2009

Post by Roxanne »

Hi All. I decided to make a separate thread for this, get a little input, then let it die for the year. :P

Marlys mentioned to let everyone know right away what the plans are, because some folks need to know far in advance when they need time off.

Since I offered to host next summer, here's the scoop:

The 2009 Midwest Regional is June 12-13 in Illinois
The 2009 AHS National is June 24-27 in Michigan
(kinda odd, usually the Midwest is after)
All that leaves is June 20th, and I don't want to squeeze anyone who might attend both. I hope I can, myself.
It just makes the whole month too busy.

Then, you have the 4th of July weekend. So, all I can think is July 11, or the 18th. I know, it's getting hot then, but I do have shade
Earlier in June, the Hostas won't be up to par yet, here anyway.

Tell me what you think. All input is welcome!
Thanks, Rox

Thanks for volunteering to host the 2009 Hallson get-together, Roxanne!! :D I think you're right about June. I suspect the MW being 1st has more to do with location - southern Illinois heats up a lot faster than SE MI. I'm fine with after the 4th. At this point, which weekend it is doesn't make a difference to me .

Good! I should be able to make it! Miss Lucy Goose, you start making plans right now. Come to my house, and I'll drive the rest of the way.
July is usually not to packed for me, so either date should work.

Roxanne, the 11th will not work for me as the Red Wing Stoneware convention is that weekend, but the 18th would work. Please try for the 18th sure don't want to miss this if it is in Iowa.
Thanks,
Sue

Sue - I am shocked that you would choose Red Wing Stoneware over hostas.

Where are your priorities???

Sue, since no one has said a specific date, I will say the 18th is it, then!! :P
I figure it won't be any hotter on the 18th than the 11th!

Reldon, I think Sue just wants it all. Like many of us "obsessed" Hosta collectors, we also collect other things as well. :D
I collect Currier and Ives dinnerware, Old Curiosity Shoppe dinnerware, and yes...I do have a few nice pieces of other stuff I had to have when I saw it.

Well, Roxanne, that's a crock!!!! A nice one.
I'm not lucky enough to have any Redwing crocks..do have a little vase, and my dad has a few pieces.
Now, how about planting a hosta in it......
Maybe hostadad can 'plant' one in it for you.

yeah Linda, I know I kinda strayed off topic there... even thought about sticking a Hosta Lee sent me with it for the picture.

Yes, it is a nice crock, and it is a pride and joy to own it.

I am going to stick with July 18th for target date unless enough folks convince me otherwise.

Hi Roxanne, just got back from taking a trailer full of stoneware to Red Wing for this years convention, we have friends that need a pickup to pull it up for them. They have had some bad luck. We will be going up on Thursday as we only have someone to do chores the end of the week. Well DH & I really enjoy looking for that special crock when we can find it. Stoneware collectors are even more obessed than hosta collectors. Roxanne nice 25gallon crock you have there. Wonderfull markings. We have a 40 gallon and it sure was heavy to get in to the house when we purchased it. Glad you understand about the collecting. I will have to bring pictures of that collection to show you at next years get together. Stoneware shards look great among the hostas. Glad you understand about the convention date and hope others will want the 18th also.
Take Care,
Sue

Great!! I was waiting to hear from you, Marlys.
So, the 18th it will be.
Reldon, you do collect something else besides Hostas...I just know it. Fess up!! :P

Sue, I would love to see those pictures. I just love old stuff. My house reflects it. Not much new stuff here at all, except for the newer Hostas, of course.

I can't wait for next year already!

Roxanne, sounds like we have allot more in common than hostas. We will have to share stories of our favorite pieces of antiques and favorite hostas. Here is a picture of a couple we have, I thought the leaves would count as hosta leaves. Marlys glad the 18th will work for you and thanks everyone else for agreeing on the 18th for next year, I am aready trying to think of something special to bring for the trade. Will have to keep my eye out for that really special one, see it't just like collecting anything, the hunt for that really special one or thing is what it is all about. Then sharing it with special friends that understand it.
Thanks,
Sue
Sorry everyone, when I looked at this last night before submit the picture was there. Boy, that was a tease wasn't it. Hope this work better.
Sue

Roxanne - I have collected other things [like anything Zebra in the late '70s/early '80s before you could find it just by turning around], but other than the occaisional cd or dvd nothing currently. Unless you want to consider a heuchera here & there mixed in with the hostas.
