Gunther's Prize is a streaky sport of Sum and Substance.
I got two little pieces of this in 2009. They took a beating this season.
The first was nibbled by rabbits and then totally devoured by deer.

The second, I think was damaged by frost and never came up. I thought I had lost it. I dug up the remnant to put it in a pot and found it had 5 late sprouts coming in.

Re: Hosta of the Day - Gunther's Prize
Well, of course the deer and rabbits would want to go after this one! They'd probably skip over an entire bed of green volunteer
seedlings to get to one like this!
I got a nice start from a hosta friend last spring, and it's held up well in this horrid dry hot summer, and is still looking decent.

Re: Hosta of the Day - Gunther's Prize
I potted my Gunther's Prize up to keep it from the rabbits. I sat this one out in full sun this summer. It grew three new shoots. I'm looking forward to it being a nice sized plant next spring.

Re: Hosta of the Day - Gunther's Prize
This Gunther's Prize showed something "different" this season - an edge. Putting it in a lot of sun let the edge show up as the center became white. Looking back at the photo of this same plant from late in the 2012 season there is a hint of an edge. In this season's early photo the edge is invisible.
In the Hosta Library there is a plant from Danny Van Eechaute that he named Gunther's Framework that may be very similar to this plant.
