Paradise Joyce

Post by wzbt03 »

Yesterday I showed my container hosta, First Frost.
Todays container plant finally out of the greenhouse is Paradise Joyce.
Another member of the Halcyon family with very close ties to June.
I have not played much with hostas in containers before but this year I decided to give it a try.

Nice! I have a note on the placement list I keep. It reads:
Where is Paradise Joyce? I got it in September last year at a closeout sale, brought it home (along with one or two or 10 others ... ) planted them all, and didn't write down where I planted it! Heck, I couldn't even remember what it looked like. Hopefully, your pic will help me find the poor baby.

wzbt & Charla - your Paradise Joyces sure look good. :P

Linda - you'd better not say that too loud or Wanda will hear you. And when you're out looking for yours this spring, you need to keep in mind that this one is a bit of a chameleon. At least mine is anyway - it takes a while to get the color you're seeing in the 2 pics. Here's what mine looked like yesterday.

In looking for some other pics yesterday, I ran across this pic taken in 2005 showing Paradise Joyce & some of the hostas around it. One of my favorite spots in my garden. :D

Paradise Joyce is finally getting the nice bluish edges now. Here's a couple pics of it taken this morning.

Thanks for the nice comments, Charla & Liselotte!! I really like it next to Abiqua Blue Crinkles too. They play off each other very nicely I think. But I'm afraid I need to dig up both of them & remove evil crab apple roots. Paradise Joyce still looks good, but Abiqua Blue Crinkles didn't look nearly as good or as large last year. That pic is from 2005.

Pia - my Paradise Joyce is in about the shadiest part of my garden. So high filtered sun at best thru the branches of the neighbor's maple & my crab apple. It never gets any direct sun so it's coloring isn't ever like what I see described for it in catalogs, etc. But I like it just fine the way it is. Peace is on the other side of it - it's the reverse coloration more or less.
GO HAWKEYES!!!

I found my Paradise Joyce. The reason I couldn't find it was quite simple! I DIDN'T get it late last year...I got it in a secret trade from Freaky Cola, and it's right where I put it the day I got it! It was Paradise Power that I got late last year, and I found that too (I think!!!).
Now I can update those maps before Wanda comes after me.
