Pic of the Day--Shining Tot

Post by Hank Zumach »

Hi All--Shining Tot is another dwarf variety that we use in a "mass" planting as well as tucked here and there around our beds. Our individual plants run about 10x5 and would tend to get lost in many garden beds. . Zilis lists a size of 16x5 at maturity but I have not had only a few clumps approach that width even though we have been growing it since 1994. This has been a rapid grower for us and can be easily divided to spread out over an area. We have it growing in an area that receives little direct sun. Slugs will be a problem unless bait is used.

Very pretty! You can certainly see that the name fits it perfectly. :D

Hank,
Thanks for sharing this one. I will have to add it to my wish list. It is so cute and sounds like it is very easy to grow and move and grow some more. Some of the mini's can be very tempermental to grow. I need something mini and easy and I think I found it in your POTD.

Yours does a lot better than mine, Hank. :) Although after I separated it into 2 smaller plants last year, both have increased this spring. I'm thinking now that maybe I should put them back together again & have one plant that I can actually see.
