Pic of the Day--Just So

Post by Hank Zumach »

Hi All--When we talk about a hosta providing a bright spot in the garden I think that the standard for comparison could be Just So. This is one of my favorite varieties. It has a nice mound form, very attractive foliage, good growth rate and a controllable slug attraction. I bought Just So in 1994 and divided off the plant in today's pic in 2000, where it grows in a spot getting about 3 hours of mid-day sun, depending on the time of the year. The size of the plant has averaged about 30x12, a bit bigger than Zilis' listing of 23x10.

Hank,

What a beautiful photo again! I still love your POTD. And I"m still learning from them / you.

I have tried 2 X to grow 'Just So'. It starts to get pretty and actually grow them something happens to it. It is so small again that it looks like a mini. I've given up on it, well, almost. Now seeing your picture, I want to try again.

Thanx!

Marlys - sounds like your Just So could have some crown rot. I'd dig it up & see what's going on below ground for sure. I've discovered that a number of mine that I thought should be getting bigger but weren't had that problem.
GO HAWKEYES!!!
