Hosta Leaves #1 - Dream Weaver

I love taking pics of Dream Weaver, but I guess I need a better camera to get the coloring right. They always look more green than they actually are, but the texture & variegation keeps me taking more. A couple of these are not quite in focus, but the corrugation detail is pretty

I think. These were taken Monday evening.

Really nice, even if the pic color is not spot on. Lots of texture on those leaves!

Hey Ren, I think they look pretty good.

That Dream Weaver looks a lot like my Thunderbolt.
No wonder I walk around confused all the time

Ed - you definitely want to get those 2 labelled right from the start if you've got both. I don't have to worry about it anymore since my Thunderbolt finally disappeared after 2005.

So,is the only difference, in the corrugation? I don't have Dream Weaver, and my Thunderbolts are only a couple years old, so....should I get a Dream Weaver do you think?

Jane - I think your Thunderbolts will eventually have the corrugation. Dream Weaver has more every year now. This is its 5th year in my garden - always in the spot it's in. They're all descended from Elegans & it's very corrugated with age.

I've never been able to tell the difference either, Jane. But the center may be slightly narrower/more uniform in Thunderbolt. Dream Weaver is a sport of Great Expectations [which is a sport of Elegans] and Thunderbolt is a sport of Elegans. More or less the same sport occuring in 2 related plants. And there is a newer one - Dream Queen - that is another similar sport of Great Expectations. I think the center in it is sposed to be more yellow. [Mine didn't survive its 1st winter so I can't tell you for sure.] But it's more or less the same. Just sported for a different grower & got a different name & was marketed. Life as usual in the hosta~world.

i think DW and TB are more or less the same, just developed in different nurseries. Jan van den Top (hosta nursery in Barneveld, NL) needs a label too, to tell the difference

I found Dream Weaver for sale yesterday and got a couple, price was right. I'm not dividing any of my established Thunderbolts for people who want a piece! I expect it to be the same looking plant as Thunderbolt.

Got DQ last year and DW this year. Admittedly the DW's are still quite small, but it's quite a stretch trying to tell the difference between them.

One the DW's is putting up a scape already, last year's DQ's aren't showing any signs of that as yet

Beautiful pics Reldon!!! Of all these look-a-likes I only have Thunderbolt, but no recent pics. This is from May 7 and it's sending up a scape. Only 1 eye still, but if I remember right from seeing it yesterday it getting bigger. I'll take another pic later.
