Pic of the Day--Tokudama Flavocircinalis

Post by Hank Zumach »

Hi All--In spite of their slow growth rate, the Tokudamas are my favorites. Tokudama Flavocircinalis is a great plant IMHO. Once it gets established this variety provides years of handsome, trouble free performance. Slugs have never put in hole in this plant. Since 1994 it has been growing in a location that gets as much as 4 hours of afternoon sun during the mid summer months. Its size has usually been about 42x17 although one year it was 27 inches high and another year it was 50 inches wide.
Zilis lists it at 48x17.

Mine was doing great till this year. It seems smaller, and then it sent up these tall stalks before it sent up the flower stalks.

It's blooming now, but I'm thinking it needs to be dug, that maybe it's fighting tree roots. It's always done well with a lot of afternoon sun suprisingly!

Mine was being hidden by surrounding plants ,but I did redo the bed it was in this year, so , hopefully, it has more room to grow and show itself. I love the Toks! Yours is a beauty , Hank! :D

Not the fastest growing Hosta, but it is worth waiting for Tokudama Flavocircinalus.

My best Tokudama Flavocircinalis - it gets direct sun in a spot that cooks Gold Standard. My other one in shade is puny.
