Strippers . . .

Post by Arlene »

I know about Striptease, Gypsy Rose, Kiwi Full Monty, and Risky Business. Are there any more of what I think of as the Strippers series?

Dee -- yes, that's one I'd forgotten!

The question came up today as I set up my "Hostas in the Landscape" exhibit for tomorrow's Michiana Master Gardener Garden Tour -- I have a largish pot of KFM on the table and have Gypsy Rose as part of the leaf display. Some MGs were chatting about the exhibit and several thought KFM was a mature Striptease . . . I tried to give a quick rundown of some of the series and it made me wonder how many I'd missed.

There's actually a website that gives you the sports of all (well, I don't know if all, but many) hostas. I can't remember the name, but I just googled "hosta 'Striptease' sports" and it took me to it...

OOOOOh! I think it would be worth the trouble! If it were me, though, I think I would wait till it was quite a bit bigger because of all the white. May have a hard time standing on its own.

I have heard with some plants, if you want to divide them, it is good to make a slice next to the parent while leaving the rest of the roots undisturbed. Gives the transplant time to overcome and compensate for being separated from the parent. Not sure if that is good for hostas, maybe someone else will chime in...

this one has been on there for 3 years. with 2 eyes, i'm sure it would survive. i am just not sure if its different enough from the others to be worthy of anything.

its been in full shade til this year. now its in full sun. so it suffered the burn that any hosta would for the first flush/transition. but now the leaves seem to be holding up.

i guess i'll just split it off this year. it seems there is nothing to lose.

Well, you're right, it may not be too special. I think you should separate it off there and just get rid of it. I'll pm you my address...I have a special compost pile here that can eradicate that thing. 8-) :D
