Hi All--Ming Treasure is an offspring of plantaginea that has the nice, white, fragrant flowers of its parent. The variety has many of the other good characteristics of plantaginea plus it has a subtle chartreuse to white edge. We have two growing in our Friendship garden and both are doing very well and showing the slow but steady growth rate typical for Ming Treasure. The plant in the photo was 16x9 last year and 24x10 this summer, on its way to an expected size of about 57x25. The variety does benefit from slug protection.

Considered to be the "a margined h. plantaginea that actually grows" (the only one in the trade?), I'd say that's damning it with faint praise. It has never been a great grower for us, about 5' from where plantaginea grows like crazy.
It is a nice margin, though, maintaining a sort of butterscotch color all season. And the flowers are, of course, identical to the species.

I had forgotten that Ming Treasure is a sport of plantaginea. I have had one in the ground since 2009 and it's still tiny with about 3 leaves. I need to pot it and see what happens. It's in a spot with no direct sun and lots of tree root competition - that's probably the problem.

Re: Pic of the Day--Ming Treasure
I went back and checked my old photos and in 2010 it did have some size to it.
Here it is in 2009 when I first got it. Here it is in early 2010. There is a tiny piece of Richland Gold's Moonlight in the bottom left corner. And later in 2010 with some size. And the Richland Gold's Moonlight is now visible. I couldn't find any more photos until 2014.
Here the Richland Gold's Moonlight is looking good but the Ming Treasure is getting dwarfed.

Redcrx,
My guess is on tree roots are getting your 'Ming Treasure'. Any other ideas?
Please let us know what you find out,
