Pic of the Day--Rascal
Hi All--Rascal is a variety that is more likely to be appreciated by folks who have already collected a number of hostas. It is an attractive plant but it must be viewed close up to appreciate its subtle variegation. In other words, it is not a plant that grabs your attention from across the garden. It is usual a slow growing variety but the plant in our Friendship[p Garden has measured quickly grown from 22x11 in 2006 to 37x12 this past summer. It has good slug resistance.

I am showing three photos, the last one being the way a mature Rascal looked in our garden in 2005.

I just got mine from Chris this year. I love the leaf shape, texture and color. You are right, Hank, in that it is best appreciated close up. I like it alot better when I got it in person than any pics I saw before. I bought it based on recommendations from folks on this site, and I am definitely not disappointed!
I am one who likes to get close up and personal with my hostas...I like the subtleties in the leaves and colors. I really like Rascal. Thanks for the recommendations, everyone!
Nic pics, Hank, as usual!

A pic of my Rascal, in it's prime... in my garden, it seems to be one that begins it's fall decline early...

Rascal
Rascal was a favorite in my garden this year.
Chris is right about the sun light. My plant gets a fair share of sunshine and loves it.
Great Plant - stood over 2' tall and the clump was about 3' across, lovely vase shape growing habit, blooms wonderfully and slightly fragrant flowers, sets tons of seeds. A "stand out" plant in the garden when mature.
I have a really nice blue sdlg from Rascal that I'm really liking too. It just came up under its mama.
Fun!
