Hi All--I am a bit reluctant to post anything about today's variety, Lakeside Sparkle Plenty, because I'm not sure if the plant in our Friendship Garden is accurately named. There is very little information about this variety in the Hosta Library and only one photo. The written description says the vase shaped plant starts the season all green and then develops gold centers with green edging. Our plant is certainly vase shaped but it has not shown anything other than green coloring. Also, at a size this past summer of 20x14, our plant seems to be beyond the "small" size listed for it.
So, if anyone has better information on Lakeside Sparkle Plenty, please pass it along.

Hank,
My plant came directly from Mary. It does get lighter as the year goes on, but I can't say that I would call it 'gold centers with green edging'. It's more like a splash of gold through the center of the leaves. I do love it, especially in the latter part of the season when it does really sparkle. I seem not to have any recent pics of it. These are a couple years old, and the plant is quite a bit larger now.

This plant needs sunlight to develop its gold centre-leaf "bleach". In full or nearly-full shade it remains a pleasant if unexciting light green. I do love its upright shape and ruffles.

I should probably move this one if I want it to grow better or actually sparkle. It's in a rocky island bed, planted beneath a lilac tree.
